Data Scientist required to join an innovative start-up in the heart of Manchester as they ramp up their data offering.

The Company:

A tech start-up who have come up with an industry leading product which will change the way we interact with technology in our day to day lives. A big claim, but from seeing their product first hand during a presentation from the CEO, one I think they can deliver on.

The proof of concept phase is pretty much over and they are now keen to deliver on several key commercial agreements, which is the natural next step for the company.

Headed up by a couple of passionate, switched on Directors, you will be working in a tight-knit team that are very much pulling in the same direction. There will be no un-needed bureaucracy or hierarchical structure in this team.

The Role:

As a Data Scientist you will be helping the Director of Data to deliver a cutting-edge data solution using a various Machine Learning algorithms, Artificial Intelligence tools and Python programming to link everything with the data capture tool they have already built.

With this role being the first data science hire outside of the Head of, you will be involved across the full lifecycle of each project, giving your opinion on the best technique/model for the job.

You:

As you will be working for a data analytics tech start-up, technical & mathematical problems are par for the course. You will be dealing with a variety of key stakeholders so will need to be able to communicate with them at both a technical and non-technical level.

One of the biggest areas for our client is the desire to continue your professional development, keeping abreast of the ever-changing world of data and how that applies to their product. They are very much of the opinion that if you are standing still, you are going backwards.

If you're on the lookout for a big pay day, or to work in a behemoth organisation where you'll be a small cog in a big wheel, this is definitely not the role for you.

However, if you are ambitious and up for a challenge - it could be the perfect match.

Technologies & Qualifications:

From a technical perspective, ideally you will have experience (commercial or academic) of most of the following:

** Machine Learning / Data Mining / Natural Language Processing (NLP) / Neural Networks / Deep Learning

** Ideally confident across all things Python, specifically SciPY / NumPY / Pandas

** Any exposure to R would be beneficial, but certainly not essential

** Statistical Packages / Models – Linear Regression / Logistic Regression / Bayesian

** RDBMS - Open Source, NoSQL and any knowledge of SQL Server

** Any understanding or previous knowledge of: Markov Models, Cluster Analysis, Statistics and Reliability Models

** Big Data tools - Hadoop / Pig / Hive / HBase / Cassandra / Spark / Splunk / Kafka

** Amazon Web Services / AWS

** MSc / PhD Educated in a highly numerical subject e.g. Stats, Physics, Analytics, Machine Learning, Mathematics

This is a unique opportunity for you to join an ambitious organisation where you can become an integral part of a high calibre Data Science team in the heart of Manchester from the very beginning of their journey.
