Learning Resources Centre Assistant Part-time and Term-time only

Our client is a forward-looking College of Further & Higher Education that serves a large area of South East England with a wide range of vocational and academic courses, both full and part time. The College is situated in Ewell, close to Epsom in Surrey, and is located in the green belt near Epsom Downs and can easily be accessed either by car (junctions 8-10 on the M25) or rail (Ewell West is close and the college is next to Ewell East where you can get regular direct trains to Clapham Junction and Victoria). The College was last inspected in February 2016 retaining its overall grading of 'Good' under the robust new Ofsted standards.

Our client is currently recruiting to the following position:

Part Time Term Time Only Learning Resources Centre Assistant

(Student Enrichment)

(15 hours per week)

Actual salary £5,444 per annum

A Learning Resources Centre Assistant is needed to join their friendly, customer focused team providing a high quality of service to students and teaching staff. This is a part-time post 15 hours per week, 36 weeks per year. You will be required to work one evening per week to 7.00 p.m. on one of the following shift patterns:

Monday 09.30 to 14.30 (5 hours)

Tuesday 14.00 to 19.00 (5 hours)

Thursday 09.30 to 14.30 (5 hours)

OR

Monday 10.30 to 14.30 (4 hours)

Tuesday 16.00 to 19.00 (3 hours)

Wednesday 10.30 to 14.30 (4 hours)

Thursday 10.30 to 14.30 (4 hours)

Key tasks will include: the issue and returning of library materials using the library computer system to control the circulation of stock and give information; shelving of returned items; processing newly acquired stock in order to prepare it for borrowing; assisting users with enquiries and catalogue searching; supporting the delivery of information skills and assisting to maintain an appropriate learning environment.

You will also help to administer and promote a range of student enrichment activities and events such as sports, health promotion, cultural and outward bound activities. Duties will include assisting the Head of Department to engage with students to help them to develop and implement student led clubs, societies and events, contacting external organisations and individuals, maintaining records, organising displays and collating feedback and statistics.

Some relevant experience in administration or clerical work is necessary and good computer skills in packages such as MS office will be important, along with excellent communication skills and a positive attitude towards working with young people.

To be successful in the role you will need to be literate, numerate, methodical and able to work under pressure, you must also be a good team player, have excellent communication and interpersonal skills and, above all, be committed to delivering high quality customer care. Experience in a library or education environment is not necessary for this post, but a willingness to learn and a 'can-do' attitude is essential.
