An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Early Years Practitioner at a well-established and highly sought after pre-school in Ascot.

Job title: Early Years Practitioner

Aim of the role: To provide safe, high-quality education and care for young children which meet the individual needs of children attending the setting.

Main purpose of the role
  • To ensure a high standard of physical, emotional, social and intellectual care for all children within the pre-school
  • To ensure the smooth running of the pre-school at all times
  • To give support to other staff within the pre-school
  • To implement the daily routine within the pre-school

Main duties
  • Observe, monitor and plan for individual children
  • Collate information on individual children
  • Offer confidential advice and support to parents/carers. This will include daily informal contact and regular reviews of their child's progress
  • Be responsible for a key group of children ranging between the ages of 2.5 to 5
  • To organise and manage an appropriate learning environment for all pre-school children
  • To select and prepare resources necessary for learning activities, taking into account the children's interests, languages and cultural background
  • To work and play with the children, understanding how to motivate and encourage them to achieve and develop
  • Monitor and evaluate the children's responses to their learning activities
  • To promote the inclusion and acceptance of all children in pre-school and encourage the children to interact, work and play co-operatively with others in all activities
  • To prepare the children's learning journeys (using Tapestry) and organise reviews for parents/carers as and when requested, in conjunction with the Manager/Director
  • To ensure confidentiality of information received
  • Support all staff to engage in good staff team working relationships
  • To ensure that all staff promote and participate in outdoor play
  • Attend all staff and planning meetings
  • To attend all training courses identified by the Manager/Director
  • To work with the management team and pre-school staff to complete and review the self-evaluation for improvement (SEF) on a regular and ongoing basis
  • To promote and ensure all planned activities follow the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum
  • To ensure that the children are safe at all times and that the child/ren are collected by someone known to the pre-school

Person specification

Essential criteria
  • An understanding and knowledge of the Early Years Foundation Stage
  • A commitment to the provision of high quality childcare
  • A recognised minimum level 3 (or above) childcare and education qualification
  • Proven experience of working within a childcare setting
  • Good written and verbal communication skills in English, as well as the ability to foster relationships
  • Knowledge of differentiating the early year's curriculum for all children
  • Commitment to promoting an ethos of effective inclusion to all users, visitors, staff and the local community
  • Good observation, identification, assessment and record keeping skills
  • The ability to work as part of the team
  • The ability to manage time and workload effectively
  • Willingness to undertake further training related to the role
Desirable criteria
  • Level 4 in early years or above
  • A current DBS enhanced clearance
  • Up-to-date paediatric first aid and safeguarding children certificates
  • Food hygiene certificate

Skills and attributes
  • Empathy and understanding of children under 5
  • Excellent verbal communication skills with children and adults
  • Ability to write reports and keep clear and accurate records (by hand and on computer)
  • Excellent organisational skills
