Education and Engagement Specialist
Have you read 'Why I'm not going back to school' by Ima Fayula?
It's a book that far too many people haven't read and one that many more won't understand.
It's understandable that a child would feel nervous and maybe a bit overwhelmed when returning to school after a long summer break, but how do you think a child would feel being forced back to school having not attended for one or maybe two years?
If it was me, I'd say I was misunderstood and that my feelings weren't important to anyone. My anxiety levels would skyrocket, and I won't be giving anyone an easy time. Why should I? No one cares about what I'm going through or what's going on at home. I'm not going to give a monkeys about what people think I should be doing.
This is a very familiar story at Fresh Start in Education as the young people referred to them may have been excluded from school, have special educational needs or other challenges to learning, but they all have one thig in common, they need you.
At Fresh Start, your ability to engage, inspire and deliver outstanding learning will have ever-lasting effects that you can see and really be proud of. Your child-centred and adaptable approach will help bring them back to enjoying learning by preparing them emotionally and educationally for the road ahead.
The idea of going to school may make them shudder when you first meet, but when you've made a huge difference in their life, with your caring, empathetic and committed approach, there will be no looking back.
What are the requirements?
Fresh Start in Education Ltd. are looking for individuals with a wide variety of skills and expertise in engaging and educating young people, especially those with Special Educational Needs and who face multiple barriers to learning.

You will need to be emotionally resilient, non-judgemental and understanding. You will need some experience with SEN and be able to demonstrate a variety of engagement strategies and adaptable teaching methods. You'll also need to show your ability to plan lessons, report on your student's development and show an unwavering commitment to safeguarding and child protection as this is central to everything we do.
Your ability to successfully manage challenging behaviours and to calmly think on your feet when under pressure will speak volumes to these young people. Your sensitive and down-to-earth nature will enable the young person to thrive and give them the freedom to express themselves, whilst feeling safe and accepted. Your enthusiasm to engage, your commitment to Safeguarding and your ability to de-escalate challenging situations are crucial to successfully overcoming your student's barriers to learning.
There will be many opportunities to use your creative skills and teaching styles at Fresh Start, so if this sounds like something you've been looking for then please call us on 020 3409 3139 or click 'Apply' below.
