Software Test Team Leader
£50K + 10% bonus
Melbreck are working with their client, part of a leading global technology business, in their search for a Software Test Team Leader.

The Role
This is very much a hands on position and would suit someone who is an experience software test engineer, perhaps with some limited people management experience, who is looking to take their first steps towards a future career in management. The role will be around 70% working as a software test engineer, and the rest of the time supporting the manager with the leadership and organisation of the small team.
Working within a mixed-discipline R&D team, assisting in the development of next-generation products
Improving the quality and predictability of software releases through detailed and comprehensive testing with a bias toward automated test development
Increasing the overall productivity of the team, working in a fast-paced development environment, reducing time-to-market

Key Responsibilities
Leading a small team of experienced Test Engineers
Gaining and maintaining familiarity with the portfolio of existing and forthcoming products
Participating in the design of both manual and automated tests for new and existing products
Producing high quality documentation where required in support of those tests
Producing reports and metrics relating to test library coverage, automated test development and test results
Assisting with appraisals of individual team members and participating in the creation of development goals
Collaborating closely with software engineers during debug efforts
Proactively seek opportunities to improve QA processes and practices within the team

Experience Required
Minimum of 5 years relevant software testing experience
Degree level education preferred, within an engineering related field
Experience in ink-jet printing or similar products would be an advantage
Some initial experience in people management/leading of small teams - proof of ability and desire to take this path
Excellent communication skills, written and verbal including the ability to disseminate ideas and information in an open, crisp manner to reports, peers and management
Proven track record with automated test tools, Squish in particular would be an advantage
Good working knowledge of Python, JavaScript or equivalent scripting language
Basic understanding of real-time principles and an appreciation of networked devices, distributed processes and packet-based protocols
Strong commitment to the design and test of high quality software
Tenacity, attention to detail and the motivation to consistently deliver according to agreed project plans
Proactive attitude and an enthusiasm to become a team player in a pressurised but highly productive environment using Agile/Lean methods
Basic competency with typical office applications
