Engineering Shift Supervisor - Manufacturing - £45k-£47k - Kent

A leading food manufacturer requires an experienced multi-skilled engineer to lead one of its shifts. Prior supervisory experience is not essential but you must be an experienced engineer with expertise across both mechanical and electrical disciplines. You will need to have experience working in another manufacturing environment, preference will be given to those coming from food or life science companies.

This a shift based role where you will supervise a team of 4 engineers. It is a continental shift pattern – further details on application.

The Role

Responsible for the management, prioritisation & allocation of ad-hoc reactive engineering tasks and ensuring that planned tasks are carried out to the correct standards.

• Communicating and aligning with Production Shift Managers, Senior Production Manager and relevant Production Team Coordinators
• Focusing Engineers to the daily priorities will be key, along with managing contractors, works during their shift, ensuring processes and protocols are adhered to.
• To liaise with the site engineering and Off-line engineering as required.
• Carry out all other ad-hoc Management requests as consistent with the role

Experience and Qualifications Required

• Approved Engineering or Mechanical apprentice (City & Guilds and National Certificate)
• Practical mechanical and electrical experience within a production environment
• Good people skills and evidence of team-working within a supervisory capacity
• Evidence of working cross functionally with different disciplines
• Target focussed
• Good interpersonal skills
• Good understanding of HR policies and procedures e.g. Performance development, Return to Work Interview process, Bradford Factor absence records,

• Fault-finding skills
• Understanding of problem-solving techniques; RCA, 5W
• Experience and understanding of machine controls and PLCs
• To be competent in a range of technical skills covering mechanical, pneumatics, machining, welding and fabrication and electrical disciplines.
• To have a sound knowledge of electrical distribution systems
• Understanding of professional maintenance techniques; Predictive, Preventative, Condition based & Planned
• Knowledge of Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH) and HACCP


• Computer literate
• SAP transaction PM102 Engineering
• Understanding of DSEAR and ATEX
• IPAF / working at height / managing working at height trained
• Accident investigation training
• Demonstrable understanding of Production prioritisation
• CIEH Level 3 Team Leadership
