A leading specialist in the design and manufacture of machines and associated products for the medical and scientific sectors, are looking for an experienced Research and Development Engineerdue to continued growth and expansion.

Duties:•Contribution to developing a detailed customer requirement alongside commercial and manufacturing•Convert a customer requirement into a design specification and subsequently into a detailed design •Liaising with internal machine workshop, assembly, QC, and external suppliers to produce prototype parts•Taking existing designs and review them with a view to simplification/ value engineering and improve reliability as required (VAVE)•Working as part of a team and on occasion on your own with minimal supervision•Running or supporting design review meetings•Presenting clearly and effectively to customers and to the business management team•Running and supporting the New Product Introduction (NPI) process•Producing Design and Process FMEAs for new projects•Transferring proven designs into the Production environment•Occasional visits to customers and other sites
Skills and Experience:•Experience of 3D CAD, preferably Creo•Knowledge of materials evaluation for chemical compatibility•Experience of designing machined parts•Experience of designing cast parts•Experience of designing plastic moulded parts•Ability to apply tolerances to mechanical designs / drawings•Familiarity of interpretation of standards, ideally medical device standards•Ability to generate written specifications given a sufficient design brief•Proven track record of understanding and working within a business Quality Management system•Working understanding of NPI processes•Working understanding of the FMEA process•Understanding of process flows, production cell design and the design of production jigs•Ability to assemble and test prototypes•Ability to generate technical reports•Familiar with fluid flow, particularly gasses and laminar flow•Familiar with plating processes; electro deposition and electro-less deposition•Knowledge of LEAN processes and basic problem solving tools would be an advantage
Hours of Work:•40hrs per week•8am to 4:45pm, Monday to Thursday•8am to 3pm, Friday
