The successful candidate will have the relevant skills and experience specified below for this 11 month temporary contract based in London. Please Note: This assignment sits inside of IR35.
This team in GLD is responsible for the successful delivery a wide range of claims brought on behalf of and against the Ministry of Defence. These include personal injury claims from servicemen and others, clinical negligence claims and inquest work.
The team are looking for an experienced lawyer to assist in what will be a busy and varied caseload which includes complex work (clinical negligence, human rights/ECHR and sometimes group action work). The position is for a Grade 7 lawyer. The ideal candidate should have strong post qualification experience in civil litigation and will be required to handle all aspects of their cases from pre-action stage up to and including appeals. The case holder will be required to take on complex case work and be able to be proactive in developing and following appropriate litigation strategies either alone or as part of a team.
Experience Required:• Good drafting and written skills is essential • Experience in managing a busy civil litigation caseload is desirable but not essential • Experience in personal injury claims is desirable but not essential • Judicial review experience desirable but not essential. • Public sector/Central Government experience desirable but not essential
·Provide robust advice·Provide legal advice in answer to complex compliance enquiries from external stakeholders

·Uses a process of analysis, planning, scheduling, prioritising, action, quality monitoring and review

· Takes responsibility for own work with substantial degree of autonomy but knowing when to consult and to delegate

·Gives early warning to those affected by changing priorities, including the Reporting Officer.

·Displays an understanding of the resourcing requirements of own cases.

·Has up-to-the minute case files readily available

·Displays an understanding of the context the client operates in.

·Displays the professional attitude that client and company expect from a member of an organisation with a high reputation

·Adopts a style most likely to build an effective working relationship with the client.

·Responds to reasonable client requests including agreeing achievable and realistic actions, timescales etc.

·Acknowledges clients’ concerns and works to alleviate these in a way that balances client and Agency needs

·Is alert to media interest which may have an impact on the reputation of the client and/or the Agency

·Helps other team members to meet tight deadlines to preserve department’s reputation.

·Display Civil Service Values, help other people, focus on customer service and look proactively for solutions.

·Keeps abreast of legal developments and current thinking on related policy issues.

·Is capable of formulating robust litigation strategies and ensuring compliance with established strategies in group action work.

·Ensures that risk issues are escalated in line with team standards.

·Uses training and other methods to refresh and improve their skills and knowledge.

Share best practice and develop knowledge management
·Essential : Qualified Solicitor, Barrister, CILEx Fellow.

·Desirable : 3 years + PQE

Please Note: The lower pay rate advertised in this job description is the highest PAYE daily pay rate that the client is willing to pay up to. The higher pay rate advertised in this job description is the highest Umbrella Company daily pay rate that the client is willing to pay up to.
