About Vision Direct

Vision Direct, Europe’s leading online contact lens retailer, requires a UI Designer to support, grow and improve UI design function for UK and international markets. Based in our Camden office and reporting to Head of UX & Design.

About the role

Our ideal candidate will be undeniably passionate about UI design, finding elegant solutions to complex UI problems, UI Components, Design Libraries and translating brand vision into UI designs and deliverables.

We work collaboratively, so you must be a great written and verbal communicator, and in particular be able to translate your insight and knowledge into consistent UI deliverables and assisting front end developers with any UI guidance and help.

Role responsibilities

  • Develop strong UI libraries and maintain them in quality and fidelity.
  • Work closely with Head of UX & Design on various high profile projects.
  • Use data and insights provided to make informed UI design decisions to ensure any new UI designs are not disruptive to business.
  • Be a great team player, experienced in working with agile teams. Ability to collaborate closely with developers, copywriters and designers.
  • Create, improve and use wireframes, prototypes, style guides, design libraries, user flows, and effectively communicate your interaction and UI ideas.
  • Present and defend your design decisions. All your design decisions should be based on the overall design roadmap as well as your own design thinking and fundamental principles (i.e. colour theory, visual weight, vertical rhythm etc.)
  • Continually keep yourself and design team updated with the latest changes in UI Design standards.
  • We don’t believe in design hand-off to developers. You will be working closely with Front End Developers during implementation to address any and all issues or design decisions needed.
What we are looking for:

The key requirements we’re looking for in your application are:

  • Three or more years of experience and proven track record.
  • Fully efficient in tools like Sketch, InVision and Zeplin is essential.
  • Strong portfolio to be presented and defended during interview.
  • Hands-on experience creating wireframes, prototypes, storyboards, user flows, etc. desired but not essential.
  • Understanding of basic front-end languages: HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript.
  • Creative ideas with problem solving mind-set.
  • Experience working in an agile/scrum development process.
  • Be open to receiving objective criticism and improving upon it.
