Job Title: Driver Compliance & Audit Manager – Heavy Haulage Division

Base: Leyland but mobile as required

Job Purpose

To effectively manage all training and compliance requirements for the Heavy Haulage Division’s drivers and Ballast Operators.

At all times maintain accurate records and provide expert opinion to the whole department and promote a ‘Right First Time’ ethos within the Drivers/Ballast operators

Create a harmonious working relationship with operational colleagues at all times and promote the safe working environment of all employees.

Main Duties and Responsibilities
  • Responsible for all driver compliance with Drivers Hours and WTD Regulations through comprehensive use of Tachograph Analysis and expert usage of Vehicle Telematics to monitor drivers performance and driving style and ensure safe and economic performance of all drivers at all times. Ensure all driver infringements are fully discharged and recorded with support from Transport Office colleagues.
  • Carry out pre-employment driving assessments for all applicants for LGV Driving jobs and ensure that only competent and safe drivers are interviewed and accepted for training prior to full employment
  • Carry out comprehensive training and assessment of load restraining techniques for all trainee drivers and sign off as competent all new drivers before being allowed to operate solo.
  • Undertake audits of all drivers and their PPE, vehicles and all equipment in their charge at a minimum of one audit per year. All audits to be fully recorded and archived in the drivers folder.
  • To assist in the ‘On Boarding’ of all new subcontractors and ensure their compliance regime is fit for purpose and comparable with the Ainscough model.
  • Carry out spot audits on any subcontractors drivers engaged on traction only operations and record all such audits in the subcontractors file

  • Health and Safety Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with Group QHSSE colleagues and represent the Heavy Haulage Division at any group meetings where required or necessary and ensure Heavy Haulage is totally aligned with Group expectations.
  • To be responsible for your individual safety and others who may be affected by your actions or omissions.
  • To adhere to departmental and organisational Health and Safety policies and use any equipment or personal protective equipment provided to ensure safety.
  • To co-operate with depot staff to maintain safe workplace.
  • Report any accidents/incidents or ill health, failings in premises, equipment or personal protective equipment.
  • Person Specification-

    Education and Training-

    Job Experience- LGV 1 – minimum 5 years’ experience

    Skills and Personal Attributes- Essential
  • Knowledge of load restraining techniques relevant to Ainscough operational needs
  • Excellent communication skills delivered both written and verbal
  • An excellent understanding of Microsoft products. Good administrative skills. Good telephone manner. Good communicator.
  • Flexible approach to hours of work to ensure all requirements are met
  • A willingness to undertake further training to meet Ainscough aspirations for continuous improvement
  • Desirable

    Education and Training-
  • GCSE’s or Equivalent
  • Job Experience-
  • Previous experience of managing and discharging driver tacho infringements
  • Skills and Personal Attributes
  • Experience of using LEAN principles and/or practical experience of Continuous Improvement
