Main Job Purpose

Practical assistance with design of new products and support for existing products.

Support quality improvement activities Identified using root cause analysis techniquesContribution to product support and improvement activities, specifically on the mechanical sideContribute towards design improvements to mechanical designsProduct testing for measurement performanceProduct testing for mechanical performanceValidation testing on softwareQuality Measurements testsContribution to test plansAnalysis and reporting of resultsDesign and build of simple test fixtures and equipmentMain Responsibilities and Duties

Ongoing Product Improvement Activities

·Gather returns data and manipulate it to be able to flush out issues requiring attention based on percentage of warranty returns

·Tackle prioritised issues using root cause analysis techniques

·Identify causes of failures & contribute towards design improvements

·Validate design improvements using test jigs to simulate faults and then provide evidence that a design improvement has been made.

·Provide test reports including detailed analysis of results to backup the improved design.

Assisting in Validation Testing of New Hardware and Software Designs

·Work with new product development teams to create test plans to prove new designs comply with development specifications

·Electronic hardware functional testing – accuracy, repeatability & reproducibility studies, usability etc

·Functional testing of embedded software, PC & Mobile apps

·Mechanical test (impact, shock, vibration)

·Life test – mechanical operations to failure, battery life etc

·Electromagnetic compatibility testing (RFI immunity & emissions, ESD etc)

·Test report preparation

Design and Source Test Samples & Rigs

Source mechanical components from VendorsHand crafting suitable enclosures as requiredAssembly into enclosuresPossibility to develop 3D cad design using Inventor PERSON SPECIFICATION



Qualifications/Education & Training

Minimum of HNC or equivalent experience in an engineering discipline


Previous test experience

Exposure to new electronic instruments, product development or improvement processes

Skills & Competencies

Mechanically Inclined

Strong analytical & problem solving skills

Methodical & careful approach to practical problems

Interested & curious about new technologies

Keen to learn about and to adapt to new ideas

IT Literate – Word, Excel,

Data entry (Attention to detail is essential)

Good organisational skills

3D cad design

Personal Attributes

Able to show initiative and adapt quickly to new requirements

Hands on approach. Strong practical skills

Able to work as part of goal orientated project team

Well organised and methodical

High level of numeracy, particularly statistical methods
