HVAC Commissioning Engineer - London - to £38k plus package

One of the UK's leading Commissioning Management companies is urgently seeking a Mechanical Commissioning Engineer to join their growing team in London. You must have a solid track record in HVAC Commissioning of commercial buildings. It is vital that you have experience in Air and Water balancing.

Job Purpose

To manage and lead HVAC Commissioning Projects and to support the Mechanical Contracts Manager. This involves being the central point of contact for day to day issues, technical issues and the interface with the clients. The role will also involve complying with company procedures. To manage other Commissioning Engineers and Assistants on your specific projects, including management of sub-contractors.


Direct responsibility for running projects and being accountable for your projects within London and the Home Counties. This will sometimes involve multiple sites and some out of hours working.


The role is based on site or within properties within the London and Home Counties area. You are expected to report to your Line Managers in the London office on a regular basis. Our work is generally in commercial properties and sites.

Nature & Scope of Activities

Development Aim - CSA Grade 4
To be aware of and research changes in the industry. Develop and promote good working practices, and man management skills. To undertake continual professional development and be capable of developing and presenting a thesis to meet the requirements for progression to Commissioning Specialists Association Grade 5.

Specific Activities

• Undertaking HVAC Commissioning activities
• Report and test writing
• Ownership of specific projects in terms of time allowance and quality
• Manage labour allocation on your sites
• Manage your site diary
• Manage extra works with instruction and work record sheets
• Manage and produce site memos
• Manage and maintain test equipment
• Train Assistant Engineers
• Interface and report to clients
• Manage sub-contractors
• Manage and hire access equipment
• Attendance at team meetings
• Attendance to commissioning site meetings

Responsibilities (CSA Requirements – Grade 4)

• To be responsible for all aspects of site safety for yourself and others including risk assessment, method statements and toolbox talks
• To assist the Commissioning Contracts Manager and HVAC Commissioning Supervisor to achieve successful completion of the project
• To carry out any tasks for Grade 1 to 3 as may be necessary or mandatory
• To be fully conversant with the structure of the project management
• To liaise with the Client’s representative and accept his instructions in accordance with company procedures when acting as senior representative on site
• To delegate to Technicians such sections of work as they should be able to undertake in accordance with their job descriptions.
• To carry out commissionability review of all systems under your control
• To ensure that you have adequate resources to meet the programme for commissioning
• To ensure that you have adequate resources to be supplied to site or surplus technicians to be relocated
• To carry out witness testing of systems and operate your employer’s company policy for completion certification
• To be conversant with electrical diagrams and become proficient at inspecting controls
• To liaise with other trades on site to ensure access is available as required for your works and for any specialist under your control
• To write concise reports to accompany test documentation for record purposes
• To actively encourage, motivate and assist the development and training of Grade 1, Grade 2 and Grade 3 personnel under your supervision
