SOFTWARE DESIGN AND DEVELOPMENT ENGINEER (BRISTOL) - SC (Secret Level) UK Security Clearance. The Role

- You will be developing & potentially integrating embedded, real-time systems application software.

- This hands-on role involves the continued design and development of missile subsystem software products and evolutions for future products. You will be developing software using SysML/UML and targeting C, C++ and/or Ada languages. The developed code together with software from several other sources will then be integrated with the OS, firmware and hardware.

- You will ideally have a degree in Computer Science or Software Engineering combined with significant experience in the development of embedded software. You will have been responsible for complex software solutions and will be comfortable working with engineers from other disciplines and with international colleagues. It would be desirable, but not essential for your experience to have been gained in defence, automotive, aerospace, telecoms or consumer electronics.

- You will favour a collaborative, open approach to development and have the ability to inspire others and maintain momentum during development. The software that you develop will be used across multiple products and sites, so strong communication skills and the ability to motivate others are essential.

- You will have gained experience in model-based development - either using UML tools such as IBM's Rhapsody; or Matlab/Simulink. Since this role involves developing software for embedded systems then experience in Operating Systems and ARM-based processing platforms will be of major benefit. Ideally you will also have an understanding of firmware and electronics design.

- Preferably you will have a background in software engineering with good knowledge of modern development practices. Knowledge of standards such as DefStan 00-55 & DO-178B/C and restricted coding standards such as MISRA would be advantageous.

- You will have significant previous experience with embedded C, C++ and/or Ada. It would be desirable for you to have knowledge of Real Time Operating Systems and tools such as IBM Rational Team Concert.
