There are many development programs that require pilot (single cavity) tools that have to be worked into the system should they need fine tuning. To this the Tooling Engineer will work alongside other tooling Engineers and liaison with the toolroom to develop these tools.
All these tools need to go through validation and is a key part of IQ , OQ and PQ qualifications is the processing and process optimization of these tools, that the Tooling Engineer would work alongside.
Toolmaking background preferable
Understanding of machining processes for repair applications
Held a Tooling engineer position, for high precision multi cavity injection moulds.
Good understanding in validation process relating to tooling , (ie the steps the tool needs to go through)
The applicant will also need to investigate and problem sole current production tooling working alongside the toolroom.
They would also need to source / maintain a spares stock level for these tools.
Responsible for all aspects of product / process realisation. This will involve the some Management of the day to day tooling issues, within the toolroom.
Reporting and working through issues with the Technical Director.
To assist where possible in all aspects of tooling for new product introduction for plastic, injection moulded medical parts and assemblies
To assist the Technical Director in the placement and management of sub contract tool manufacture .
To ensure that tooling projects come – in on time and to budget.
To Develop project schedules with sub contract toolrooms to ensure that tools arrive against an agreed commitment
To communicate project schedules to other engineers and departments
To help develop new tools through the trial and validation stages of testing along with the company project managers.
To offer design and manufacturing support during the initial stages of tooling placement.
To develop and manage a tool history file for all tools under control.
To develop preventative maintenance programs on spares listings for new tools
To assist in the translation of new CAD files where appropriate. (Use of solid works is advantageous)
To attend customer meetings and offer guidance and support through the design and development phase of any given project.
To assist in the development of efficiency programs for other tooling projects
To assist in the development of automation programs where a tooling interface exists
To attend exhibitions , seminars and supplier visits to develop a wider knowledge of tooling advances and techniques
To assist the Technical Department in any given tooling related task where detailed tooling knowledge is required
To support the Sales Department in any given tooling related task where detailed tooling knowledge is required.
