Fibre & Capacity Planning Engineer - SDH DWDM
London or Bracknell

  • UK Field team working on the UK accredited national network. Installation & commissioning of DWDM, Ethernet switch and Cisco/Juniper router equipment along with rack, power and patching installation. Support for test and turn up of new network elements and services. Support for migration of customer services between platforms. Maintain accurate inventory of site as-builts

    Job Responsibilities:

    • To carry out the day to day field activities associated with implementation and network build projects, for both internal and external customers
    • To ensure requirements are delivered on time and within budget, update records, procure documentation and hand over new build to Operations.
    • To undertake maintenance support for the NOC and support of First Line maintenance contractors
    • To provide local monitoring of first line maintenance contractor’s performance on repair and preventative maintenance routines
    • To carry out general project management / Clerk of Works functions related to external works

    Experience Required:

    • UK resident as successful candidate will require UK BPSS and SC clearance
    • To support network build projects and customer migration in support of upgrading and optimising the UK national accredited network
    • To undertake reviews of Interoute’ sites to ensure the platform installs and sites are maintained at the required standard and identify any quality issues and implement the associated quality improvement plans.
    • To work within the Network Services team and perform the engineering duties required to delivery Interoute’s services in the required timescales and off the required quantity.
    • To assist in performing the technical work to ensure build projects to expand Interoute’s network are completed to the required quality and in the required timescales.
    • Report and respond appropriate to any detected security incidents in accordance to Interoute Security Incident Management procedures.
    • Ensure compliance of the UK DC estate to Interoute ISO 27001 Security Management System, maintaining security policies and controls.
    • Report and respond appropriate to any detected security incidents in accordance to Interoute Security Incident Management procedures.

    Person Specification:

    Technical :
    • Knowledge of telecoms standards as they apply to telecom installations.
    • Knowledge of DWDM/Ethernet and IP systems – experience of any of the following vendor equipments would be advantageous (Coriant 7100 Nano WDM, ADVA3000FSP, Cisco 12K/7600/7200/3600/3400, Juniper MX routers/EX switches
    • Good understanding of technical and telecom systems
    • Use of telecoms testing equipment including OTDR, Ethernet and SDH testers.

    Personal :
    • Enthusiastic, Self-motivated with good organisational and communication skills.
    • Able to operate in a cross-functional matrix-management environment.
    • Team player.
    • Ability to remain flexible with working hours and locations
