Wren Transport currently require a Driver Assessor for our Barton-Upon-Humber depot, you will work 8.5 hours per day between Monday to Friday from 07:00am start.

Summary of Role

To provide support to the Transport Management Team to ensure Drivers and Porters maintain the highest standards of health and safety. To increase the general awareness of road safety with a strong focus on reducing road traffic accidents, ensuring that drivers drive with maximum vehicle sympathy, in an efficient manner, delivering on time within the constraints of the law and with the highest standards of customer service.



To Supervise Employees who are undergoing training or assessment, retrain/coach any staff member observed contravening company procedures and report/record in writing via the Improvement Notice Procedure. Carry out regular site tours and Delivery Team Site visits to observe and improve team performance through coaching/recording for further action as required.


Produce preferred store routes advising drivers of the most efficient route to take to delivery and collection locations. Coach drivers on defensive driving and fuel efficient driving techniques to assist in the delivery of operational targets.


Ensure drivers' licences are checked in accordance with Company procedures and that accurate records are kept. Ensure own knowledge of workplace legislation is kept up-to-date to become departmental experts.


Ensure daily contact with Transport Management team to plan and prioritise workload. Communicate information on Drivers' tachograph infringements to the Transport Management team. Network with Driver Assessors at other Depots to ensure consistent practices. Liaise regularly with fellow Assessor Team members to ensure a consistent training approach.


Plan and deliver inductions for every new driver. Plan and deliver agency driver assessment and induction. Plan and deliver remedial post-accident training and assessment. Plan and deliver annual driving assessments for all drivers. Ensure all drivers are trained and understand the importance of accurate data capture. Conduct van driver assessments with the same level of focus on quality and administration as LGV drivers. To drive training and compliance on digital tachographs.

Business Development:

Actively encourage Drivers/Porters to feedback potential areas for operational improvement and cost saving. Feedback to the Fleet Department any areas of concern that may affect future fleet purchase / leasing decisions.


Ensure paperwork for all assessments / inductions is fully completed to the highest standards and filed, with copies being sent to the Training Department.


To attend training courses and pursue personal professional development opportunities that will benefit the operation.

Key Result Areas:

Teamwork. Ensure all assessments are completed in a timely manner. Agency drivers are always assessed before use. Ensure paperwork is neat, accurate and filed appropriately with copies in Training Department. Drivers' licences checked and copies filed in accordance with procedures. Reduction in accident rate. Improvement in mpg.

Health & Safety:

Adopt a proactive approach to Health & Safety at all times. Ensure safety training is provided to all drivers as part of their initial induction and annual assessment. Network with the Health & Safety department to keep up-to-date on relevant Health & Safety legislation and ensure our training practices exceed standards. Assist with the completion and review of Transport risk assessments.
