Learning Support Assistant / Teaching Assistant

Location: Southampton, Hampshire

Hours; 40 hours, fulltime, terms times only

Salary: £15,474 - £18,519 DOE

New Forest Care is a private organisation of approximately 270 employees who provide high quality care to the young people who live within our 11 Children's Homes. All of our homes, crisis service unit and our school are graded as Outstanding/Good by Ofsted

New Forest School looks after students who are of either sex and between the ages of 7 and 19 years. They will have suffered severe early life trauma which has left them angry, let down and distrustful of adults.

Duties of the Learning Support Assistant / Teaching Assistant:

  • To provide classroom support to students and teachers
  • To intervene physically with our students, when required, using Team Teach trained techniques when de-escalation strategies have failed.
  • To support the aims and ethos of the school;
  • Setting a good example in terms of dress, punctuality and attendance;
  • Attending all staff/curriculum and subject meetings as required;
  • To promote the welfare of children and to support the school in safeguarding children though relevant policies and procedures.
  • Inspire trust and confidence in students and colleagues;
  • Build team commitment with colleagues and in the classroom engage and motivate students;
  • To maintain good order and discipline among the students, safeguarding their health and safety;
  • Being proactive in matters of Health and Safety;
  • To organise and manage groups or individual students;
  • Demonstrate analytical thinking improve the quality of students' learning contribute to the school improvement / development planning and promote the learning priorities of the school SDP (School Development Plan);
  • Contribute to the development and / or implementation of school policies;
  • Use the performance management process to advance student learning and enhance professional practice in line with the school's aspirations and priorities;
  • Promote the wider aspirations and values of the school.

Requirements of the Learning Support Assistant / Teaching Assistant:

  • Experienced in working within the SEN sector or working with young people with SEN
  • Adaptable, resilient and have a desire to make a lasting difference to the lives of our very individual young people.
  • Effective communication skills and build good relationships
  • Flexible and adaptable
  • Able to work as part of a team or on your own initiative
  • Full UK driving license - desirable
