Software Developer / Engineer
Salary up to £33,392 (salary will be dependent on experience) +quarterly performance bonus + 25 days leave + subsidised gym + free parking + pension benefits.
What is the purpose of the role?
This is a unique opportunity to be part of the team ensuring the delivery of 1.24 billion litres of drinking water per day across one of England's largest counties. Yorkshire Water is committed to continually exploring and developing new ways to do things better. The Telemetry Team ensures that reliable data can be transformed into effective information for use around the business.
The role requires someone who can quickly understand the management of large volumes of data held in a variety of historians. This is derived from thousands of measuring instruments and detectors across the county. With an accurate record of the past the business can accurately model the future, for example to highlight a potential issue if certain weather conditions continue or if an operational asset were to remain offline for essential maintenance.
Overlays of real time data such as Rainfall-RADAR will also be introduced to provide further clarity to the operations team. The Software Developer role will be instrumental in not only configuration but also resolving the challenges posed by introducing many different types and formats of data into a single system.
The Telemetry Team Software Developer will also be responsible for developing/maintaining effective and efficient software platform services aligned with, and enabling, the delivery of company Performance Commitments under Blueprint2020, Strategic Business Objectives and the Company Vision.
What will the role involve?
In your role, you will also be working alongside a team of engineers, analysts, technical leads and an architect. This team creates new telemetry configurations and end to end testing of telemetered data from remote assets back to central systems. You will also support the development of new configuration standards, specifications, testing and provide overall support to the telemetry service.
In your role, you would be directly involved in major projects including the introduction of a profile alarm system as we move away from flat-line thresholds and the large OSI-PI to SAP interface project. To meet the needs of the Plan to Manufacture (P2M) and Asset Plan to Operational Assets (APOA) workstreams Yorkshire Water is developing a bespoke PI to SAP interface. This will allow the business to have a simple method of showing how much resource is required to produce or treat a given volume of product and provide methods for predicting maintenance events.
Any candidate would be expected to have experience of supporting business change, with the ability to coach and drive the right culture and behaviours. Deputise and assist Senior Engineers where required. Demonstrate corporate values and behaviours and have an awareness of your own role within team and project plans.
