NHS Lothian is seeking to recruit a General Adult Psychiatrist in Midlothian. This post is based just south of Edinburgh with a catchment area of towns including Bonnyrigg and Dalkeith. The successful applicant will be one of 3.0 WTE in Midlothian which has a population of approximately 90000. Midlothian Joint Mental Health Team has been 100% integrated for the last 10 years - all staff (social work MHOs OT CPNs Psychology IHTT and administration staff) are co-located at the team base in Bonnyrigg. Co-location and integrated working have been a huge success and our model is a prototype for much of the health and social care integration work currently taking place across Scotland. We intend to continue this tradition of joint working and innovation to further improve patient care in the years to come.

This post is across community intensive home treatment and inpatient settings. Inpatients are in the custom-built brand new Royal Edinburgh Hospital facilities . Typically the consultant would spend 2 sessions per week on inpatient work with the remainder in the community. The successful applicant would be part of the Royal Edinburgh Hospital Adult Psychiatry Consultant rota which is currently 1:21 and attracts a 3% availability supplement. There are close links with the University of Edinburgh and NHS Education for Scotland with the potential to develop teaching and research roles as permitted within the job plan.

Midlothian is well-served by voluntary sector organisations including the Orchard Centre (run by Health in Mind) providing community support for people with mental health problems and Park Cottage (run by Carr-Gomm) providing residential rehabilitation for patients with severe enduring mental illness. is a portal for all the services available in the area.

A range of psychological therapies is available locally including a DBT service integrated within the CMHT.
