We have an exciting career development opportunity for a Software Engineer to help us develop powerful tools that control our scientific cameras and optical systems. Our Software Engineers change the world. We help scientists win Nobel prizes, astronomers detect neutron stars, and surgeons develop new treatments for cancer.

About Us

At Andor Technology, we have been providing high-value imaging, spectroscopy and microscopy systems to scientists and researchers since 1989 and in that time have built partnerships with over 10,000 customers. Now part of Oxford Instruments plc, scientists in a wide range of disciplines rely on our systems to measure light down to a single photon and capture events occurring within 1 billionth of a second.

Working in an Agile environment, you will be joining an enthusiastic team of test-driven development practitioners responsible for the delivery of innovative new software solutions to the global research community.

Our customers rely on our technology to push beyond the boundaries of their disciplines.

Role and Responsibilities:

To support them, you will be:

  • Contributing to technical investigations
  • Resolving technical problems
  • Providing innovative, robust and scalable solutions using the latest tools available.
  • This will involve gathering requirements and planning projects such as the designing, implementing and testing software drivers and applications, or improving, refining and refactoring existing applications.

In addition to a degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Maths or Physics, you should be able to demonstrate the successful delivery of at least 1 major software development project through all stages of the software development lifecycle (from requirements capture to application deployment and support). This should have involved significant experience in using C++ (and preferably Python), object-oriented and multi-threaded design and application architecture.

Preference will be given to candidates with experience of developing software to interact with electronic equipment or scientific instrumentation, developing under both Windows and Linux, or embedded design experience, although these are not essential. It is more important that you are able to demonstrate the ability to solve problems, plan and deliver results, communicate effectively, and build strong relationships with internal and external customers.

In addition to a competitive starting salary and structured career development towards a Senior Software Engineer position, Andor Technology offers flexible working hours and a half-day on Fridays, 25 days annual leave, private healthcare, a share incentive plan, a defined contribution Group Personal Pension Plan, and a flexible benefits package that you can tailor to your own requirements.
