Our Client is a well-managed SME Global Company consisting of a team of skilled professionals. Their customer focused approach is driven by the determination to achieve the highest level of quality, reliability and cost effectiveness. Based just outside Petersfield, with an Asia Pacific Sales office in Taiwan, they have designed, manufactured and supplied to the automotive, medical and marine sectors since 1973.

They are seeking to recruit a Purchasing Manager who will have overall responsibility for Purchasing. This is a hands-on role and the successful Purchasing Manager will have previous experience within a similar environment. The Purchasing Manager will be responsible for a £2million spend and ideally have foreign currency pricing/exchange rate experience.

Responsibilities / Accountabilities:

  • Run Stock Forecast report, highlight and resolve issues
  • Raise purchase orders on suppliers, as highlighted by the Stock Forecast report
  • Chase suppliers for unconfirmed/not shipped orders weekly
  • Negotiate with freight forwarders for shipping times and costs
  • Negotiate with suppliers when required (e.g. improve shipping dates, reduce MOQs)
  • Create shipping containers in xVP with tracking information including on time delivery for suppliers
  • Update and control shipping schedule
  • Request purchase order authorisation from Works Operations Manager or Finance Manager
  • Track and follow up incoming shipments with forwarders, provide updates to Warehouse Manager, Works Operations Manager, Quality Manager and Sales Manager if required
  • Monitor DPW and investigate changes if required
  • Check and sign logistics and supplier invoices
  • Get air freight quotes when required for customers or urgent issues, updating the air freight log with all information
  • Order miscellaneous non-stock items such as tape and packaging
  • Help Quality Manager complete supplier surveys
  • For all FCL shipments create a virtual container, FCL and LCL quotes for this cargo and actual DPW % and report information to Works Operations Manager
  • Customer delivery performance to exceed 90%

Qualifications / Experience:

GSCE Standard

Microsoft Office & Excel

Previous industry experience


Attention to detail, accurate

Good communication skills

Confident, outgoing manner

Strong negotiating skills

Due to rural location, a current driver’s licence will almost certainly be required

Hours: 0900 - 1730 Monday-Friday, Salary £35,000 - £40,000 STE.
