Mortgage Lending - Technical Improvement Officer

Salary £50k-£55k + Bonus + Benefits

My Client are a successful Financial Services Company looking to recruit a Technical Improvement Officer to join their Mortgage Underwriting Operation.

This is a new role created due to the company experiencing good growth and due to Investment, they are looking to expand. Working as part of an established Underwriting team you will support the development of the business in the Residential and BTL mortgage markets via the intermediary channel.

You will be responsible for actively supporting the business to ensure the team are technically equipped to deliver new mortgage loans across the business within Criteria, Policy and Risk appetite. This will be achieved through consistent monitoring of all mandated staff members, providing feedback and coaching to enhance individual and team technical performance.

You will also support operational and credit risk management to improve process, design and deliver changes to Policy and Risk Appetite to support business goals, and work alongside the change team to deliver appropriate system changes and controls.

This role would suit an experienced Underwriter with good technical lending knowledge who enjoys sharing knowledge to develop others to support the success of the team.

Responsibilities

  • Provide oversight and support in ensuring processes are robust and that team members adhere
  • Development of existing controls and procedures
  • Participating in team activities to enhance the mortgage proposition
  • Development of technical skills and capability in the team
  • Provide one to one feedback to operational staff discussing key technical areas identified
  • Work closely with key stakeholders to support individual and team performance improvement
  • Work with stakeholders ensuring, compliance/regulatory expectations are met
  • Highlight individual training requirements to Team Leader and where appropriate deliver
  • individual or team technical training
  • Provide a monthly First Line of Defence performance report including proposed actions to Second Line of Defence (Head of Credit Risk and Head of Operational Risk) and review with Head of Mortgage Operations and Mortgages Team Leader
  • New starter support where required together with input into the Mandate/Accreditation programme

Experience

  • Financial services experience to include knowledge and understanding of current regulation
  • Experienced in managing First Line of Defence and Quality assurance activity, driving continuous improvement, in the specialist residential mortgage lending industry.
  • Extensive knowledge and experience of the residential specialist lending market from an underwriting perspective
  • Motivation skills to drive ideas / improvements
