My client, a highly reputable and established organisation based in the centre of Bristol are currently seeking a Engineering Manager to join their growing team. The purpose of the Engineering Manager will be to provide leadership to the cross-functional engineering team, with responsibility for managing the engineering lifecycle across several business platforms and/or supporting infrastructure. The role entails both line management and technology management responsibilities.

Duties:-
• To lead the full engineering lifecycle for allocated business platforms and/or infrastructure, including technology selection, design, development, quality assurance, implementation, deployment, operation, support and decommissioning.
• To champion DevOps engineering practices and to foster a DevOps engineering culture, to streamline delivery and increase agility, including through the adoption of increased automation and monitoring.
• To define, maintain and communicate an effective architecture and technology roadmap, driving engineering quality, simplification of the technology landscape and operational efficiency, seeking external validation where appropriate.
• To contribute and adhere to architectural and design principles, ensuring that solutions are well engineered to respond to evolving business needs.
• To actively seek opportunities to outsource commodity services, in support of reducing the breadth and complexity of technologies managed in house.
• To ensure that platform and/or infrastructure risks are identified, recorded, prioritised and clearly communicated to stakeholders, including through the technical roadmap.
• To champion the scheduling of risk mitigation tasks through the team planning process and meetings, balancing with business objectives.
• To escalate risks to the IT risk governance group appropriately where help or support is needed.
• To ensure adequate provision for ensuring business continuity, through backup and disaster recovery planning and testing.
• To collaborate with Product Managers, Digital Delivery Leads and other stakeholders to retain consistency between engineering strategy and product strategy.
• To create digital products and services which deliver an excellent customer experience.
• To proactively bring technology capabilities, ideas, vision and proposals to stakeholders, in support of delivering the business strategy.

Knowledge & previous experience –
• Line management experience.
• Team leadership experience.
• Agile, lean and DevOps experience.
• Good cross-functional knowledge across ops, DevOps, QA, development & delivery.
• Good knowledge of appropriate tools and technologies.
