Severn Infection Sciences is a partnership between North Bristol NHS Trust and Public Health England and is sited at Southmead Hospital, Bristol. It is the largest diagnostic infection service in the South West of England. It provides analytical, clinical or infection control services to three large Trusts in Bristol, Bath, and surrounding primary care practitioners. An opportunity has arisen for two full time Consultants in Infection (Medical Microbiology) to join a large and dynamic department of 9 other Consultants in Infection (Medical Microbiology) and 4 Consultants in Virology. The post holders will lead on specific areas as well as contribute to the general infection service at North Bristol NHS Trust or University Hospitals Bristol NHS Foundation Trust.
One post will lead on the delivery of Paediatric Microbiology which will require significant presence at Bristol Royal Hospital for Children, and will also contribute to other clinical services at UBHT. The other will lead on the delivery of specific microbiology services to the Burns and Plastics department at NBT as well as act as Decontamination Advisor to NBT. One post is funded by NBT and the other by PHE but both posts have a cross-site element. The attached job description contains both the NBT funded JD and the PHE funded JD. Applicants will need to indicate whether they wish to apply for one post and if so, which one, or both posts. A single application process is being used.
Applicants should hold Full Registration with the GMC. Additionally, they should be on the GMC’s Specialist Register, or be able to demonstrate that their expected date of receipt of CCT will be within 6 months of the date of the interview for this post. Doctors who have qualified outside the EU and are not on the GMC’s Specialist Register should be able to demonstrate that they have had a minimum of twelve months experience in a consultant or equivalent post. Experience and familiarity with UK hospital systems and practices or equivalent is essential.
The successful candidate will be employed under Terms & Conditions of Service for Consultants (England) 2003. The Trust has teaching status and is linked with the University of Bristol and the University of the West of England.
