As part of the company's R&D division, you will be running cutting edge machine learning algorithms on audio data sets using large cloud-based computer clusters. The models that you produce will be delivered into the company's products and will also inform research, thus having a direct impact on both customer satisfaction and innovation. This job is open to experienced applicants as well as graduate applicants who are able to demonstrate a strong interest in machine learning applied to audio.

You will be based in my client's new Cambridge office, which is right in the middle of town. Primary Role:

The role is to help create new sound recognition products and to work on continuous improvements to existing products for customers. The main tasks are:

  • Setting up and running machine learning algorithms on continually revised audio data sets using computing clusters to produce models.
  • Analysing the performance of these models on extensive evaluation data sets.
  • Assisting research engineers in running R&D experiments.
  • Making improvements to the company's machine learning processes.
  • Making recommendations to the data team about further data revisions.
  • Working with the product manager to understand the requirements of the company's sound recognition products, and working with customers to ensure software is optimised for their products, thus acting as a link between R&D and product deliveries.


Skills:



Required:

  • Strong analytical skills.
  • A solid grounding in computer programming.
  • Experience or interest in machine learning, demonstrated by either professional, academic or personal projects.


Desirable:

  • Python coding abilities.
  • Experience or interest in running large scale computing processes.
  • Familiarity with Linux/Unix.
  • Skills in digital signal processing applied to audio signals.
  • Experience or interest in audio processing and/or acoustic modelling.


Personal Attributes:

  • Excellent problem-solving skills with strong attention to detail.
  • Inquisitive, creative and keen to learn.
  • Good communication skills and enjoy working in a team.


Education/Experience:

Either

  • At least two As at A-level (or equivalent) plus a degree in a numerate subject, likely to have been Maths, Engineering or Computer Science; or
  • At least six months learning and applying machine learning and/or digital signal processing skills; or
  • At least six months experience running big data processes on a cloud-based computing platform.
