Our client, a highly successful manufacturing business, a world leader in their sector are looking to recruit an experienced Foundry Operative on a permanent basis.

The Role

You will be expected to achieve high standards of quality, in line with targeted levels of output whilst working safely and maintaining full product traceability. You will be working as part of a team and you are expected to contribute to improving any working processes.

The main tasks of the role will include a number of the following skills: -
• Operation of wax injection moulding machines.
• Inspection of wax components.
• Use standard operating procedures to repair components.
• Assembly of wax components onto runner systems using hot knives and micro-welder equipment, following individual part guidelines.
• Inspection of completed work to ensure best quality is achieved.
• Loading and unloading of moulding robots.
• Maintaining optimum slurry/sander parameters to ensure best mould build.
• Working in a hot metal environment, melting and pouring liquid metal.
• Use belt linishing machines to grind various castings to specified tolerances.
• Operating air hand grinding tools.
• Operating abrasive wheel semi-auto cut off saws.
• Preparing and cleaning castings moulds.
• Operate equipment in other areas of the Foundry as and when required: including knockout machine, hydraulic press and wheelbrators for metal cleaning.
• Use metal washing machines and guillotines to complete tasks.
• Contribute in a team working environment.
• Contribute to continuous improvement.
• To share knowledge and/or best practice with other team members.
• Maintain safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules and regulations.
• Inspection of completed work to ensure best quality is achieved using the ‘right first time’ approach.
• Use computers to extract data.
• Ability to measure liquid viscosity and weights.

The role also includes other general duties to maintain the efficient working of the Foundry. The above list of tasks is not exhaustive and the post holder may be required to undertake duties as may be reasonably expected. All employees are required to be flexible and co-operative to assist in meeting business needs.


The FO plays a key role in the continuous process involved in the supply of finished components which begins with the identification of customer need and ends with the delivery of customer satisfaction. The production of components begins with the castings at the Foundry. It is extremely important that FO’s understand the signifance of their role within the Foundry and the continuous process of manufacturing. As the business grows it is important that the Foundry meets customer demands, i.e. where appropriate, if business demand increases, the Foundry need to increase with it, as well as achieve high on time delivery and customer quality satisfaction. FO’s need to be open to change and adaptable to help contribute towards the Foundry meeting these demands. Working in such a small team it will be requirement that FO’s work across all areas of the Foundry and will be willing to train on other equipment.

• Ability to promote the business in a positive manner.


• Experience of working in a Foundry would be beneficial.
• It would be advantageous to have knowledge of Foundry processes e.g. casting shelling process, shell making parameters, and robotic shell manufacture.

While no formal qualifications are specified the successful candidate will be able to demonstrate their compliance with the above Skills and Abilities requirements.
