Engineering Consultant

Location: Great Hucklow, Derbyshire or home based.
Salary: Negotiable, DOE
Hours: 37.5 hours per week for full-time posts
Contract: Permanent, full-time or part-time.

Our client is a leading independent technical consultancy business specialising in regulatory compliance. The company has just celebrated 20 years in business and is now planning the next stage of business development.

They now require a number of technical specialists for consultant roles to support the planned business growth.

The Role:

Engineering Consultant - Key duties:

• Establishes a clear and full understanding of the scope of work and budget for all allocated work;
• Manages all allocated work such that the hours expended are within the allotted hours budget for the work;
• Performing tests, examinations and assessments of products and equipment on behalf of clients;
• Assisting clients with the identification and application of the standards for safety and performance that are applicable to their products/equipment;
• Assisting clients with the design and implementation of safety and quality programmes and procedures;
• Preparation and compilation of Technical Files;
• Research into existing and proposed legislation and standards;
• Reporting findings of tests, examinations and assessment to the client by telephone and in writing;
• Preparing quotations and dealing with sales enquiries;
• Actively engages with other team members and recognises the importance to the business of developing the skills within the team - supporting other team members to do so by actively sharing both knowledge and experience;
• Site visits to clients' premises in the UK and worldwide;
• Other duties and tasks as requested by your manager.

Technical Consultant - Candidate Specification:


• Technical qualification, preferably a Degree;
• Experience in the application of technology;
• Able to effectively communicate, both verbally and in writing, complex subject matters;
• Able to analyse complex problems and develop innovative and effective solutions;
• Able to quickly assimilate both technical and legislative information, effectively restate it and utilise it, where applicable, in undertaking allocated work.


• CE marking of products or equipment;
• Product design and development;
• Excellent client Relationship skills;
• Working in professional services business;
• Interpreting technical standards and legislation.

Direct experience of working as a consultant is not essential; however, you will need to either already have or be able to develop the necessary non-technical skills associated with the provision of high value professional technical services.

Being home based is an option for this role, providing that it is viable for the candidate to attend the office at least once a week
