Job Purpose of the Operational Quality Engineer:

To liaise with the customer on quality matters.
To set and communicate quality requirements, standards and controls to assure quality of product and process to the Business Unit.
To analyse and communicate the effectiveness of the system for quality by BU and customer including conformance to quality requirements for product and process.
To provide Quality Engineering support for the Business Unit in problem resolution.
To train and advise the Business Unit on quality matters, procedures and techniques.
To lead and support continuous improvement and defect prevention activities.
Audit the management system to ISO TS 16949.
To provide guidance and support to Quality Engineers, deliver training and coach the quality team.
Support in the development and cascade of TS16949 within the plant to all functions.
To travel to customer/supplier sites as and when required to deal with quality concerns and issues.

Principle Accountabilities of the Operational Quality Engineer:

Customer liaison regarding quality matters – Quality requirements, customer concerns, visits and performance reviews.

Analyze quality data and drive continuous improvements through team and plant

To obtain and understand customer approvals for quality standards and ensure they are being adhered too. .

To set, communicate and train the quality standards (visual aids/inspection instructions etc.).

Review update and maintain control plans /inspection instructions in order to control product quality.

To maintain records of internal and external quality concerns, analyse and report the status by BU and customer.

To support the Business Unit in other defect prevention activities (e.g. PFMEA reviews and updates)

Schedule, maintain and review conformance audit and product audit systems.

Lead or support continuous Improvement activities relating to quality.

To arrange authorization of parts that is to be scrapped or quarantined.

Support the Business Unit in resolution of quality concerns in Quality related matters and ensure the effectiveness of corrective actions.

Encourage and assist with training to all relevant personnel in the use of disciplined problem solving techniques and other Quality techniques as appropriate.

Assist in the completion of quality functions of APQP, PPAP and PSW submissions for changes to current product.

To ensure quality procedures are followed for non-conforming product e.g. the Concession and ECR procedures.

To carry out other duties relevant to the post that may arise thus ensuring a comprehensive and flexible service to the business and the department.

Participate in team feasibility for new product

Equipment Used and Technical Expertise Required:

Inspection instructions

Visual aids/care points

Measuring equipment

Appropriate quality techniques including disciplined problem solving techniques

Ability to read Engineering drawings

Understand GD&T and apply within working environment

Knowledge and Experience Required:

Quality systems (ISO TS 16949, VDA 6.1, ISO 9001, ISO 14001)

Concern Resolution (8D/QPR/PPS/Fault Tree analysis

Knowledge of customer requirements (JLR, Toyota, Nissan, Honda, BMW) not all essential but an advantage

Customer interfacing as necessary

Ability to transfer skills to the team and develop colleagues

ISO TS 16949 internal auditor or lead auditor

SPC knowledge and application

MSA (measurement system analysis) knowledge and applications

Core tools FMEA, Control plan, PSW, APQP,

Working Knowledge of CMM

Working knowledge of Laboratory testing (Weld Marcos)

Mig, Projection, spot welding criteria and understanding

HNC/HND/Degree qualified minimum
