HEAD OF ENGINEERING (CEng)

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Building Services Manager within the FM and Maintenance sector to join an established business in East Kent as the Head of Engineering.

The successful candidate will ideally be a Chartered Engineer, with a strong Engineering background in the Building Services and FM sector or similar.

Head of Engineering Duties & Responsibilities:

> To lead, develop and implement the engineering and maintenance strategy and to lead a multi-disciplined engineering team to cover both day to day operations, emergency call out, reactive maintenance, PPM, contract management, project management. Overall responsibility for delivering a robust engineering and maintenance service to the park.

> They will manage the building engineering team but will need to work closely with our utilities engineers. The sites buildings contain tenants from both science, manufacturing & business services.

> The team currently consists of BMS, Plumbing, Mechanical, Electrical, C&I (16 engineers) as well as technical administration.

> A key part of the role will be to implement a programme for PPM.

Operations:

> Lead, develop and implement the engineering and maintenance strategy to ensure a reliable, compliant and cost-effective operation.

> Implement industry best practice reliability based maintenance techniques to drive improvements in asset availability and reliability at minimum cost.

> Identify requirements for plant and infrastructure improvements and develop capital expenditure plans to deliver the necessary projects.

> Provide engineering and maintenance expertise to troubleshoot complex engineering problems, and act as Subject Matter Expert in a variety of system/equipment types. Carry out RCFA studies to address and resolve repeat failures.

> Develop metrics in conjunction with customer groups which drive business performance improvement.

> Oversee engineering work management practices and ensure all works are accurately recorded and appropriately charged to the relevant cost code or tenant service charge.

Budgets:

> Continuously seek to identify and implement ideas for cost reduction and promote a high degree of cost awareness amongst the workforce.

> Monitor cost and performance of key subcontractors to ensure effective service delivery, compliance and value for money

Management:

> Manage engineering contractors, suppliers, and service companies so as to ensure a cost effective and compliant service provision.

> Work with Procurement to source the most cost effective suppliers
Set the standards of service provision for key contractors and service agreements

> Monitor service levels and review contractor/supplier performance in terms of cost, effectiveness and compliance

> Carry out quality audits and competency assessments of key suppliers and contractors

> Manage key contractors and service providers on site to ensure compliance with all regulatory and EHS requirements

Project Management:

> Work with the maintenance team and customer groups to identify, plan, and implement minor improvement projects. For major projects, provide the necessary coordination between the project team and operations.

> Provide the necessary justification and analysis in terms of cost, benefits, and risk for projects

> Source appropriate suppliers & consultants

> Ensure maintenance requirements are fully catered for including plant/equipment training, critical spare parts, O&M documentation and PM schedules

> Manage the implementation of minor projects

> Support the delivery of new projects from conception, scope development through commissioning & verification.

> Maintain up to date awareness of new technology, equipment and process development, and maintenance techniques and make recommendations for implementation of same

Health & Safety:

> Responsible for the Health & Safety of your team and any sub-contractors
Accountable for the prompt & accurate reporting of all EHS incidents and the subsequent investigations including the implementation of any lessons learnt.

> Proactively manage business continuity or emergency situations to minimise the impact on tenants and bring systems back into operation as quickly and safely as possible. Undertake any follow-up activities to improve business continuity and emergency preparedness plans.

Head of Engineering Skills, Qualifications and Training:

> Strong engineering background essential, qualified in Building Services, Engineering and/or FM Management - Hard Services

> Strong technical knowledge of M&E/HVAC and FM Services

> NEBOSH / IOSH Training: A strong Health & Safety background is essential

> Chartered Engineer - Ideal/Beneficial

> 5+ Years at Senior Management/Director Level.

Head of Engineering Salary & Package:

> Salary between £60,000 to £80,000 DOE + Benefits Package

> 23 Days Holiday + Bank Holidays
