Job Description

Our client with a rich heritage of providing leading systems capability and equipment for the Air, Land, Sea and Space domains.
The Southampton site hosts the Infra-Red Centre of Excellence for the design, development and manufacture of infrared detectors for commercial, industrial, space and military applications.
An Experienced Assurance Engineer, preferably with Space industry experience, is required to join the existing Quality Assurance team at the Southampton site ; working with Project Managers, Customers, Design/Development teams, Operations and Purchasing/Suppliers.
The role is to support project teams on all aspects of product assurance, ensuring product quality, and the integrity of our design and manufacturing processes.
Carry out internal audits as part of overall internal audit plan. There are no line management responsibilities.

Key Responsibility Areas
Ensure all customer requirements are satisfied by effective assurance planning and implementation.
Support Projects and Design to resolve Quality Assurance issues, including reports and presentations to management and cross functional teams.
Management of Project Quality topics e.g. writing Assurance plans, failure analysis and working to root cause, managing CofCs and concessions.
Undertake internal Quality audits.
Review and approval of engineering changes and product release
Ensure compliance to regulatory and legal requirements

Preparation, maintenance and updates of the Product Assurance Management Plan.
Perform the Product Assurance management activities in accordance with the approved plan, including Project Audits, Critical Item control and management of alerts.
Provide general PA support to the programme including preparation and attendance at review boards, design reviews, phase reviews, MIPs, KIPs, and approval of manufacturing documentation.
Project Quality Assurance activities, including support to manufacturing, assembly, integration and test activities and associated documentation, End Item Data Package, Cleanliness and Contamination Control, Verification, Validation and Qualification schedules, plans and reports.
Assurance of Non-conformance control procedures and associated documentation and records.
Assurance of Dependability requirements, Reliability Engineering programme and associated supporting documentation, including Reliability Predictions and Failure Modes Effects Analyses.
Assurance of EEE component parts procurement activities, including selection and approval of suppliers, procurement specifications, evaluation, screening and Lot Acceptance Testing, and component approval documentation.
Assurance of Materials, Mechanical Parts and Processes, including preparation, maintenance and updates of Declared Materials List, Declared Mechanical Parts List and Declared Process List, and associated Material and Process approval documentation.

Skills, Qualifications & Knowledge Required
Educated to Degree level or equivalent in relevant science or engineering subject.
Practical experience working in a Quality Assurance / Project assurance discipline within an engineering design and manufacturing environment.
Familiar with Quality tools and techniques - (D)FMEA, Root cause analysis e.g. 8D, statistical techniques.
Experience in a relevant manufacturing based industry (for example – electronics, semiconductor, optical packaging, medical, automotive, Space or defence)
Effective communicator with all levels of the business and customers.
ISO9001 Experience (AS9100 preferred)
Able to lead Product Assurance activities in a variety of product and functional teams

Desirable:
Familiar with SAP
Able to lead root cause and corrective action activities
Familiar with Space industry requirements
Trained internal auditor

Intrinsic Factors
This is mainly an office based role using Display Screen Equipment but you will also work occasionally in a production area in a clean room environment.
Working to tight deadlines either on a regular or ad hoc basis will be required.
Occasional travel within the UK and abroad with overnight stays may be required to visit Customers and/or other sites.
The nature of the tasks involved means that any candidates applying for the position must be capable of achieving UK Security Check (SC) clearance
