Ultra Electronics, Communication & Integrated Systems (Ultra CIS) is one of the larger UK based Ultra businesses and is operationally run as four business units: Information Assurance, Secure Communications, EWST and Surveillance & Security Systems. These business units are underpinned by a shared services structure which incorporates finance, HR, operations and communications. Across Ultra CIS we provide encryption, network protection, automated payments, tactical and commercial communications and telemetry systems, covert and mobile surveillance systems and situational awareness technology to defence, public sector and commercial customers worldwide.

Job Purpose:
To lead and manage the strategic and operational performance of the Quality department, ensuring the successful delivery of Business Strategy, Key Performance Indicators and objectives, whilst adhering to Customer and regulatory compliance and achieving commercial success.

Scope / dimensions:
Leading a team of Quality Assurance Engineers based across the Ultra CIS locations. The Senior QA Manager will be responsible for submitting inputs to the overall Operations budget. Based predominately in Greenford with occasional travel both within the UK and abroad.

Key Responsibilities:
Strategy and Development
• Overall responsibility for Quality activities across the CIS Business.
• Create and implement best practice quality vision, strategy, policies and processes to aid and improve business performance using recognised process performance methodologies.
• Provide strategic and operational guidance and support to the CIS business to ensure continued certification to AS9100 and ISO9001.

General
• Regularly report on Quality activities to the Senior Management Team, ensuring accurate and timely reporting of the relevant CIS Key Performance Indicators.
• Develop and promote quality related training and awareness across the whole of the organisation.
• Manage audits and assessments of the supply chain.
• Ensure that corrective actions are delivered and non-compliance issues are resolved on time.
• Guide the SMT in areas of concern, process improvement and process performance.
• Promote the standardisation of processes across the CIS Business and ensure compliance to UK legal and Customer specifications and standards.
• Provide leadership. Mentor and develop direct reports to ensure a high performing team that delivers continuous improvement, added value and cost reductions.
• Develop and manage all aspects of Quality in the CIS supply chain.
• Develop and manage all aspects of Software, Firmware and Hardware quality.

Relationships
• Work collaboratively, negotiate and engage with key stakeholders to facilitate delivery and compliance with the Quality and CIS Business strategies.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience:
Essential
• Extensive Quality management experience within the Aerospace / Defence industry.
• Experience and ability to present to the Senior Management Team.
• Extensive experience of compliance to the AS 9100 series of Standards.
• Proven leadership and management skills.
Desirable
• Experience of APQP and PPAP methodologies

Qualifications:
• Relevant manufacturing / engineering degree is preferred, or HND, BTec Professional Level 5 award or equivalent NVQ level 5 qualifications.
• Chartered Quality Professional (preferred).
• IPC 610 Trained
• Internal Auditor (IRCA approved preferred).
• Ability to obtain SC Clearance.
• Full driving licence essential.
