A vacancy has become available based in Gloucester for the position of Health & Safety Advisor, reporting to the Facilities Manager. You will be responsible for creating, maintaining and improving safety in the workplace by ensuring that legislation is adhered to and assist in the planning, implementing, monitoring and reviewing of the health and safety strategy. In addition, you will be required to formulate operational procedures that recognise hazards, seeking to minimise conflict between safety and production considerations and assess risk and propose workable solutions.

* To assist the Senior Management Team in complying with current health and safety legislation and/or regulations with the objective of ensuring that all reasonable and proper measures are taken to protect the safety and health of employees and visitors
* To monitor, evaluate and review Health and Safety Policy and Practice, ensuring consistent implementation across the organisation, and to develop and implement new policy and procedure documents as required
* To increase health and safety awareness at all levels within the company and support managers to maintain safe systems of work and implement best practice, including providing specialist advice, coaching and practical support as needed
* To act as the main HSE point of contact and proactively promote the HSE agenda by developing and leading HSE campaigns to target key operational risks, providing general and issue specific HSE training as required, and effectively dealing with queries from internal colleagues, regulatory bodies and customers.
* To manage the collection, storage and analysis of accident and other health and safety data and to produce management reports, identify trends and recommend action
* To investigate or, where appropriate, to assist others to investigate the circumstances and causes of accidents and take necessary steps to prevent a recurrence, including keeping written records of the investigation and action taken
* To investigate and report on complaints of hazardous working conditions to the Business Support Director and/or other Senior Management Team members
* To arrange for Health and Safety testing, evaluations and audits of the workplace by external agencies as may be necessary
* To coordinate the training of personnel in areas of safety, including first aid, CPR, accident prevention and investigation, work place inspections and other matters related to implementing safety procedures
* To consult employees on Health and Safety issues and to coordinate and develop the role of the Company's Health and Safety Committee and the First Aid Team
* To work with managers and employees to ensure Risk Assessments and General Planned Inspections are prepared and reviewed as necessary

* NEBOSH qualified
* Significant HSE experience essential
* Working knowledge of ISO OHSAS 18001 & BSI ISO 14001 Management Systems
* Maintained knowledge of current and impending HS&E legislation and guidance and a solid working knowledge of risk assessment
* Good cross-functional communication skills
* First-Aid Management
* Good Project Skills - Implementation of new systems / procedures / Close-out / Review
* Flexibility - open to improvements and change.
* Experience of working in a lower tier COMAH facility
