SQL Database Administrator
Head Resourcing currently has a brand new opportunity available for a SQL Database Administrator with a recognised Glasgow based client. As a SQL DBA, you will be responsible for the provision of 3rd line database performance tuning, maintenance and support services on our clients business systems, whilst also assisting with database design and development in order to ensure the integrity and security of all databases. Principal Tasks and Responsibilities Within this role, you will have 3 primary task areas, as follows; Application support *Receive and log requests for support from service desk, development teams, other service delivery staff and/or users; investigate problems and other requests for support and determines appropriate actions to take. Along with prioritising requests in accordance with agreed criteria and with reference to Line Manager *Monitor progress of requests for support and ensure users and other interested parties are kept informed. *Provide correct responses to requests for support by making modifications to system parameters, developing work-arounds or site specific enhancements, reconfiguring systems, changing operating procedures, producing additional documentation, or escalating requests to software suppliers. Ensure all work is carried out and documented in accordance with required standards, methods and procedures. *Monitor database services for which responsible by regular scrutiny of reports from the applications software or the IT team. Note problems and identify performance trends. Where approved, take corrective action to improve performance and to avoid problems arising; *Liaise with software suppliers on the development of system enhancements to overcome known problems or further fulfil user requirements. *Identify and develop enhancements and functionality changes on internal services using the provided tools and templates or developing and testing appropriate code. Business analysis *Assist the IT Team to investigate and model business functions, processes, information flows and data structures, using methodical and consistent techniques; investigate operational requirements and problems, contributing to improvements; specify information flows, processes/procedures that will meet the business requirements; *Document work, take part in user meetings and assist in presenting issues and solutions both orally and in writing. *Assists in defining acceptance tests for new or changed systems. Development *Assist in the design and developing the future state of IT systems and services *Plan for integration and efficiency of services *Evaluate business requests, identifying best practices and lessons learned *Clearly communicate and collaborate designs and initiatives with all stakeholders In order to be successful in this role, you will have; *Experience working as a production DBA in a SQL Server environment, providing support for mission critical applications *Experience of performance monitoring and database optimisation tools and techniques *Good experience of back-up and recovery tools and techniques *MS SQL, TSQL, SSIS, SSRS *Microsoft Stack Security *Reporting, ETL & Data Warehousing *Development & Support Skills *Pragmatic and flexible approach *Excellent interpersonal skills If you would like to be considered for this role then do submit a latest cv at your earliest convenience.
