We are currently looking to recruit an enthusiastic and self-motivated SIMS Data Manager to join the team. This is a key role which requires an extensive knowledge of SIMS, advanced Microsoft Office skills good communication skills.

The position is term time only plus ten days and offers a salary of between £23,481 and £25,615 (£33,000 - £36,000 fte), depending on experience.

Hours: 8.30am to 5.00pm term time only plus 10 days to include public examination results days and two days preparation immediately before the start of the academic year.

Aims of the role:

To facilitate the management of the use of data within the school through the effective use and administration of SIMS and Firefly along with other IT systems as necessary. This will include:

  • Ensuring that school systems for recording, monitoring and reporting are up-to-date.
  • Ensuring that student data, including assessment data is managed.
  • Ensuring that staff data is managed.
  • Ensuring parental access to data through our web portal is managed in line with school policy.

Line management responsibility for:

The Data Manager is accountable to the Director of Studies.

To lead the use of SIMS in the school:

  • Primarily responsible for the development of SIMS throughout the school.
  • Liaise with IT Technicians and APG IT as necessary to ensure a stable SIMS platform is running.
  • Report to SLT on investments needed for future developments.
  • Remain up-to-date on Capita developments of SIMS capabilities.
  • Work with SLT to identify and develop new uses of SIMS in providing useful data for sections of the school community.

To develop the staff use of SIMS:

  • Train and advise staff in the use of SIMS for registration, mark sheets and accessing information.
  • Extend and embed good practice in the use of SIMS throughout the school
  • With the Director of Studies design and generate suitable mark sheets and monitoring reports, which should, as a minimum, include MidYIS/ALPS data and predicted grades, all half-term grade reports and results of significant whole-cohort assessments.
  • With Heads of Year design and generate suitable mark sheets and monitoring reports, which should monitor achievements and behaviour as logged by staff using our agreed menu options.
  • Design and generate other SIMS reports as required. This could include, but not be limited to; calendar reports for specific types of event (e.g. musical performances); medical reports; cover loading reports; similar specialized reports for which a need is identified.
  • To develop and manage, with the Director of Studies, the Options Online.
  • To develop and manage, with the Director of Studies, academic timetabling.

To manage data in SIMS:

  • Input and maintain accurate data within SIMS regarding all staff and student details.
  • Work with the Admissions Registrar as required to ensure new student data is promptly and accurately included in the system.
  • Manage and maintain data accessible to parents through Firefly (specifics to be agreed by SLT).
  • Ensure MidYIS/ALPS predictions are entered into all staff mark sheets for relevant students. Produce Individual Student Profiles for Years 7 and 12 for use by relevant Heads of Year.

To facilitate other aspects of school business:

  • Manage, with the Director of Studies, the production of half-term, interim and full pupil reports.
  • Manage, in conjunction with the Examinations Officer, results access procedures. Be present in school on results days each summer.
  • To support all SIMS users with their data entry and housekeeping tasks.
  • Be the Administrator for Firefly to ensure accurate data transfer with SIMS and appropriate permissions are in place for end users (students, staff and parents).
  • To prepare and upload data to external bodies for statutory returns e.g. ISI, CEM, DfE.
  • Produce data reports for SLT and other external agencies, as required.
  • Assist the Examinations Officer with the collation and dissemination of all exams data on results’ day.

General responsibilities:

  • To ensure that the Headmaster and staff are aware of major changes to relevant regulations and procedures.
  • To proactively identify areas for improvement in all current systems.
  • To attend and contribute to staff meetings and ongoing professional development.
