This role for a Solicitor to work in Planning has been released on a temporary basis for 3 months initially

Main Duties:

* To advise Council Officers and Members on the legal aspects and implications of their decisions, including providing recommendations.
* To provide legal and procedural advice to the Council’s committees, primarily the Regulatory and Appeals Committee and the Licensing Committee.
* To prepare papers and draft documents to take legal proceedings in order to enforce legislation in the criminal and civil courts and manage the process.
* To act as advocate for the Council at Court hearings and tribunals.
* To provide training to Officers and Members on legal issues involving their areas of work.
* To assist the Solicitor to the Council in ensuring the delivery and continuous improvement of the legal service, in line with the Council’s corporate objectives.
* To instruct external solicitors and/or counsel, where appropriate.
* To undertake additional duties as required, commensurate with the level of the post.

You should match the following criteria:

* SRA registered Solicitor, qualified to practise in England and Wales with current practising certificate.
* Advocacy experience.
* Experience managing the conflicting needs of stakeholders.
* Understanding of the way in which private commerce and the Council interact.
* Excellent organisational skills.
* Ability to work under pressure and manage competing priorities.
* Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
* Knowledge of the relevant Data Protection Act, Freedom of Information Act and Regulation of Investigatory Powers Act and relevant case law.
* Knowledge of Contract law and relevant case law.
* Knowledge of Environment law and relevant case law.
* Knowledge of Local Government legislation, case law and governance.
* Knowledge of Benefits law and relevant case law.
* A team player who shares knowledge within the team.
