An Applications Engineer with a BSc, MSc or PhD in materials science, electronics or engineering and specialism in optical microscopy is needed by our client, a rising scientific instruments company, based in Manchester.

They are passionate about using cutting-edge nanotechnologies to achieve the impossible with light. They launched their first product - the world's most powerful optical microscope - and built the world's first virtual imaging nanoscope - key to a wide variety of applications in scientific research.

Having gained global media coverage and raised £550,000 in government funding, they are now on the lookout for a new member to join their talented and multicultural team of scientists.

About the Role:
As their Applications Engineer, you will be a key ambassador and expert in their technology. Your role will involve supporting their sales team and broader commercial activities, carrying out imaging experiments on a range of sample types using their product, and establishing and maintaining strong working relationships with world-leading scientists, researchers and industrial end-users in high-end imaging applications.

You will be travelling the world to present case studies to customers, and installing their instruments in customer laboratories. One-to-one training in their technology by their research scientists and inventors will be provided.

About You:

  • BSc, MSc or PhD in materials science, electronics or engineering - with a specialism in optical microscopy
  • Practical and theoretical knowledge of optical microscopy
  • First-class communication skills (written & verbal)
  • Willingness to travel regularly internationally
  • Strong organisational skills
  • Ability to work independently
  • Experience with imaging at high resolution (desirable)
  • Previous experience working on an independent scientific research project (desirable)

Salary: £25,000 - £33,000 per annum + opportunities to travel + chances to learn, grow and take on responsibilities
