Position Overview

This post provides an exciting opportunity for you to play a pivotal role in leading a new team within the Professional Services Centre, based in Sheffield. You will manage a team of Finance Assistants, whose roles include all aspects of financial transactional services, including processing of purchase invoices, bank reconciliations, sales invoice creation and credit control, supporting across the Citizen Services division. The successful candidate will be customer focussed, working with stakeholders and partners across our wide range of businesses. You will have a keen ability to drive through process improvement changes whilst leading a team, ensuring a high quality, efficient service.


  • Demonstrate leadership and motivational skills to manage the Finance team to deliver an effective and efficient service
  • Develop, communicate and coach the Citizen Services teams to enable efficient and effective finance processes across the organisation
  • Demonstrate collaborative working across the PSC Business Support teams, which include HR and Payroll
  • Develop and maintain good working relationships with Citizen Services stakeholders to ensure interfaces are delivered effectively and consistently
  • Maintain collaborative relationships with external stakeholders
  • Proactively ensure that all staff engagement objectives are incorporated into the overall focus and activities of the team

What we are looking for


  • GCSE Grade C or NVQ 2 in English
  • GCSE Grade C or NVQ 2 in Mathematics or equivalent educational level
  • AAT/CIMA or equivalent
  • An experienced leader managing a finance team
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • 3+ years of accounting experience in a supervisory role
  • Prior experience with financial / accounting software packages
  • Strong Excel experience
  • An effective communicator and influencer at all levels
  • Demonstrates ability to plan and prioritise own workload and team.
  • Delivery focused with the ability to take ownership of problems and ensure effective solutions
  • Demonstrable ability to design, implement, and monitor accounting and internal control systems
  • A thorough understanding of administration processes
  • Good interpersonal skills, demonstrating good rapport with people
  • Proactive approach, capable of working on own initiative
  • Able to develop teamwork, and create positive and performance driven culture in teams
  • Ability to think creatively, anticipate problems and opportunities, and develop vision for continuous improvement
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications and possess computerised accounting software knowledge
  • Positive and flexible in approach, highly driven and self- motivated
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent numerical skills
  • Meticulous attention to detail, methodical approach to work ensuring accuracy at all times
  • Ability to adapt to changing environment and needs of multiple clients
  • Ability to analyse/interpret data and take appropriate action
  • Working knowledge of finance admin processes and systems
  • Working knowledge of tax and other financial legislation


  • Team leader or management qualification, e.g., NVQ, PGCMS, DMS
  • Working in a fast pace transactional environment with multiple sites
  • Experience of using Great Plains / MS Dynamics
