Role Purpose

This post provides an exciting opportunity for you to join a new team within the Professional Services Centre, based in Sheffield, supporting the Citizen Services division. You will work as part of team of Finance Assistants and your role will cover all aspects of day-to-day finance operations, including processing purchase invoices, bank reconciliations, sales invoice creation and credit control. The post involves communicating with stakeholders across our wide range of businesses and liaising with suppliers. The successful candidate will be a team player, customer focussed, with a keenness to learn new processes, whilst working within a fast paced environment.


  • A proactive Finance Assistant with responsibility for either/all Purchase Ledger, Sales Ledger or General Ledger
  • Ensuring that SLA's are achieved and the auditable processes and systems are accurately maintained
  • To be flexible and adaptable to ensure high levels of service are maintained within the Finance team
  • Develop and maintain good working relationships with Citizen Services stakeholders to ensure interfaces are delivered effectively and consistently
  • Maintain collaborative relationships with external stakeholders
  • Demonstrate collaborative working across the PSC Business Support teams, which includes HR and Payroll
  • Reception and telephone duties required

What we are looking for

  • GCSE grade C or NVQ 2 in English and Mathematics or equivalent level
  • NVQ 3 in business administration or equivalent
  • Previous experience in a Finance role
  • Experience of maintaining clear and accurate records
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications
  • Working knowledge of functional processes and systems
  • Working knowledge of function of function legislation e.g. VAT
  • Ability to work on own initiative
  • Ability to prioritise own work effectively and adapt to meet different demands
  • Work to tight deadlines
  • Attention to detail and able to identify inaccuracies effectively
  • Ability to manage confidential data in a professional and sensitive way with a basic understanding of the Data Protection Act
  • Good interpersonal skills, and able to communicate to staff and customers on all levels
  • Ability to recognise areas for continuous improvement, make recommendations and implement
  • Proactive approach with a 'can-do' attitude
  • Vocational qualification e.g. CIMA, AAT
  • Experience working within a fast paced environment
  • Great Plains/MS Dynamics
  • Flexible in approach with the ability to change or changing deadlines
