Our Metro and Civils division (a sub-division of Transportation) manages and delivers projects for major below ground civil projects and is recognised as authoritative and cutting edge. We specialise in all aspects of foundations, geotechnics and tunnelling and contribute to some of the largest and most demanding structures in the world. These projects include major London based projects such as East London Line, Victoria Station Upgrade, Northern Line Extension and Thames Tideway. International projects include Budapest Metro, Dublin Interconnector, Doha Metro and a number of hydropower schemes in Georgia, Albania and Zambia.

Supporting our civil design capability we have specialist engineering geology, hydrogeology, numerical modelling, and seismic expertise within the division. In addition our engineering hydrogeologists work with the wider network of hydrogeologists (water resources / contaminated land) across the company.

Will you provide your input to our hydrogeology team?

We are looking for an experienced Engineering hydrogeologist/Groundwater engineer to support the Principal engineering hydrogeologist. Working from the Croydon office you will be involved in a wide range of UK and international projects (from investigation through to design and construction) with the potential to travel overseas for periods as required. This role presents an excellent opportunity to broaden your experience and skills, with good career potential for those with enthusiasm and willingness to tackle a challenge.

What will you be doing on a day-to-day basis?

Ground water input

You’ll be involved in all aspects of groundwater input including reviews of geotechnical baseline, designing reports (including derivation of temporary and permanent works pressure profiles) and interpreting reports. In addition you will also provide groundwater control outline design and drainage advice to Mott MacDonald engineers, clients and contractors.

Design input

Not only will you be involved in groundwater input but you will also provide direction and review seepage modelling for geotechnical and structural design input.

Mentoring & support

You will mentor and provide internal training to Graduate hydrogeologists and the wider geotechnical engineering community and provide technical support (including meeting attendance and delivering presentations) to Mott MacDonald engineers, clients and contractors.

Have you got what it takes?

With a commercial background working within the hydrogeological/ hydrological industry, you can demonstrate experience in the design, supervision and analysis of hydrogeological / hydrological investigations including monitoring instrumentation. You’re happy to work independently or as part of a team and are comfortable working on multiple concurrent projects delivering to deadlines when required. Not only that, you are confident in both your technical writing ability and presentation skills communicating effectively and professionally with all levels of staff and clients.

You’ll need to have:

* MSc/Meng/MA/PhD in Hydrogeology or equivalent
* Experience working in a consultancy or contractor environment
* Experience in groundwater flow modelling (analytical/ numerical)

It would be great if you are a chartered member of a professional body or are close to your chartership application submission. Additionally it would be good if you have experience in undertaking technical reviews and presenting to external audiences. Any knowledge or experience of the UK ground engineering sector (including it’s standards, contract conditions and specifications), geotechnical design requirements and Eurocodes or seepage modelling (SEEP/W) and interfacing with geotechnical modelling packages (SLOPE/W, Plaxis) would be beneficial.
