Product Strategy Director
Based in Newport
Salary circa £55,000 - £60,000

My client are a leading manufacturer and distributor of products into the plumbing and heating industry. They are looking for a well-rounded, strategic senior manager / Director to oversee the product strategy for the business, so a strong understanding of product marketing is required, ideally from within a manufacturing business. Strong leadership and people management skills are required as you will manage a team of product marketing, communications and account managers.


Working closely with, and directly reporting to, the Senior Management Team. As a member of the Leadership team, this position will be responsible for driving a culture of continual improvement, helping to identify and optimise the organisation both tactically and strategically, leading various change and communication initiatives, and implementing effective KPI’s that allow the management team track improvements. As a key member of the leadership team you will be exposed to all areas of the organisation and play an active role in both strategy leading change and talent strategy deployment. The role will lead projects and initiatives with broad scope (i.e. global) and high impact to the organisation. In addition, the position will be engaged in key assignments with long-term business implications, may lead cross-functional teams, and contribute to the overall strategic priorities for GB, Ireland and Europe(partially).
It is essential that this role works and collaborates with the Technical, Procurement and Finance Department.

• Manage a team of Marketing and Category Managers
• Create a 1, 3 & 5 year road map to ensure the overall business strategy is delivered.
• Interviewing, hiring and training of the team
• Planning, assigning and directing workloads of the team
• Develop & roll out a clear digital marketing strategy in each route to market
• Develop & roll out a clear Total Account management Road Map
• Appraising performance, rewarding the team.
• Product lifecycle management from concept to phasing out of the product(s) across all products/product lines.
• Management of existing product lines, increasing profitability and setting of Profit and Loss goals for each product/product line with the leadership stakeholders.
• Establish metrics to measure effectiveness and drive improvements.
• Creation of product strategy, product roadmaps and specification of product requirements.
• On-going development of the product vision and strategy. Synthesize ideas on strategy, planning and execution of next generation of products, working with current product team building consensus and driving execution.
• Ensure constant communication of all strategies throughout the organisation
• Creation and maintenance of a segmented customer mailing database for Specifiers, Contractors, Architects, Merchants for straightforward mass customer communications.
• Maintain product and market knowledge. Analyse and keep abreast of market trends.
• Aggressively identify opportunities for improvement and incorporate new product features on an on-going basis. Define market opportunities and develop product briefs.
• Lead cross-functional teams to realize product concepts and bring them to market.
• Work with customers internally to define and refine product requirements & processes
• Best practice research and benchmarking. Conduct competitive analysis and develop a strong understanding of stakeholders to drive development decisions.
• Development and execution of tactical plans.
• Develop and manage relationships with customers.
• Ensure technical/operational involvement in all projects.
• Ensure ERP compliance adhered to with all projects
• Any other reasonable tasks

Key Result Areas
Strategy Development
• Work with the sales teams to develop key strategic priorities and then partner with and support the leadership team to develop and document progress.
• Develop clear product pricing strategies.
• Maximising potential of existing manufacturing capabilities while researching new and innovative product design processes.
• Create a framework for data collection, collation and evaluation of all product marketplaces.
• Undertake analysis/modelling work to drive insight and identify opportunities for optimized performance.
• Interact with the businesses customers to ensure strategies are correct.
• Support the implementation of key strategic initiatives, improving the team’s ability to deliver on strategic priorities and improving operational effectiveness.
• Stay abreast of trends and best practice in the technology industry and seek ways to continually improve the organization.

Performance Analysis & Optimization
• Ensure measured business plans are cascaded throughout the business.
• Assign budget responsibilities by route to market within the Product & Marketing team
• Own KPI models and reports.
• Analyse overall performance based on KPIs and highlight opportunities for improvement to leadership team.
• Evolve KPIs as appropriate to ensure they are driving high performance, continuous improvement and the right culture.
• Evaluate current work processes and identify improvement strategies, leveraging change management strategies including process mapping, root cause analysis and benchmarking of processes.
• Change Leadership
• Undertake change programs as assigned by the leadership team
• Serve as change agent by stimulating, communicating, and institutionalising change methodologies and the benefits these capabilities provide.
• Ensure impact of change is measurable, implemented successfully and with desired outcomes.
• Partner with Leadership and HR to drive cultural changes across the business.
• Communications and engagement initiatives
• Partner with the product development and HR to lead company-wide communication framework.
• Undertake direct communications with the business teams on behalf of the leadership team and provide another conduit for continuous feedback from the teams.
