Purpose of Position:
The principal function of the role is to provide financial and commercial support to the operational and support business units in order to assist each function in delivering its own short and medium-term objectives.

As the business continues to expand, through acquisition, organic growth and from targeted expansion into new markets, there is an increased need for focused financial support, control and challenge within the operational and support areas of our business.

The business has invested significantly in recent years in both the IT and Warehouse infrastructure, the overall gross investment value is in excess of £80m. This investment is a core part of the business strategy; to continue to grow significantly both through acquisition and organically and to deliver significant operational efficiencies through the use of automation. The role will play a key part in delivering these efficiencies and be heavily involved in the integration of businesses into the existing infrastructure.

The role will be required to work in partnership with the operational and support teams in a financial capacity in order to ensure optimum profitability and growth. The role will involve further development of focused and accurate financial reporting information as well as supporting the existing finance team in the budgeting and forecasting processes.

Key Accountabilities:
• To undertake commercial analysis of financial and other information for the business and to identify and help implement actions to address highlighted issues;
• To develop, produce and review KPIs and Financial information to ensure that we are consistently improving our performance;
• To support the delivery of operational efficiency savings through the new NDC and SAP investments;
• To support the delivery of synergy savings through the integration of existing subsidiary businesses and new acquisitions;
• Attend certain management meetings as a key member of the operational team.
• To review and challenge the cost base for operational and support functions and to identify areas for efficiencies;
• To support the existing budgeting and forecasting processes for operational and support elements of the business;
• To co-own the balance sheet responsibility for key areas of operations;
• To take responsibility for specific projects to support the development of the division (both financial and non-financial);
• To highlight underperforming activities and support operational management to ensure that a performance plan is put in place;
• To undertake any other projects as required by the Finance Director or as directed by a senior manager from within the operational and support business units.

• The cost performance of the operational and support business units
• Building, improving and delivering finance information for the business units
• Meeting deadlines for production of reporting and analysis
• Cost benefit delivery to plan for key operational projects (SAP and NDC)
• Successful integration of subsidiary business, delivery of expected synergies in line with plan
• Individual customer satisfaction performance

Person Specification
• Qualified accountant
• Experience of operating at a commercial/management level
• Knowledge in working with ERP applications, Microsoft Word, Excel and Access
• Good questioning and listening skills
• Ability to work autonomously
• Fluent written and verbal communication skills
• Have excellent time management skills
• Ability to present at all levels within a business
