A unique and challenging opportunity has arisen for a creative and driven Mechanical Design Engineer with solid experience of special purpose machinery design to join an R&D team working on innovative high specification machinery.

This multi-million pound business has renowned capabilities for developing cutting edge technology, and as part of their expansion plans, have a need for a high end candidate capable of performance enhancing design work to contribute to ever evolving product upgrades.

The successful Mechanical Design Engineer will be responsible for the specification, design and detail of mechanical components and assemblies to develop innovative mechanical solutions. You can expect duties to include:

? Liaise closely with the Project Manager and Project Team to identify design requirements: function, reliability, cost, serviceability, and ensure the design integrates correctly

? From the design in SolidWorks, to produce assembly drawings and detail drawings specifying materials, machining tolerances and assembly notes

? To produce bills of materials specifying bought out components and their source of supply

? To obtain cost effective quotations from vendors for manufactured parts

? Throughout the build process, to provide technical support to the manufacturing production team, procurement department and the design team, provide assistance with test and build procedures, and the transfer of the product to the manufacturing and the customer

HNC/HND or equivalent experience in a mechanical engineering environment is essential along with:

? Experience of special purose machinery design, preferably in a multi-disciplinary manufacturing environment

? Experience of mechanisms, fluid handling, drives, jigs, fixtures, sheet metal, pneumatics, and safe machine design

? Extensive use of a 3D CAD system – SolidWorks is essential

? Competent with the use of Office software and MRP systems

You will be an experienced Designer and it is essential you have solid background of special purpose machinery.

We are seeking an Engineer who can not only design machinery, but have the ability to work with the entire R&D team to create and innovate machines. You will have the skills to constantly evaluate each part of every design in order to extract better performance.

This role is based in the East of England commutable from within and around the following areas: Bury St Edmunds, Bedford, Cambridge, Hitchin and Huntingdon.
