Fundraising Collections Volunteer

Location: Edinburgh and the East of Scotland

About the role

Collections are a very simple way to raise valuable funds. A little of your time can make a big difference. It would be your role to organise, on average, eight volunteers to do the collection, manage the volunteers on the day and do the cash counting and basic paperwork. You will meet lots of new people and have the chance to meet existing volunteers. You will also be making a huge difference to people in a crisis, both locally and internationally.

About the Team

There is a wide variety of ways in which people can fundraise. Fundraising is fun, rewarding and a great opportunity to meet lots of new people. You will learn a lot about the work of the Red Cross and meet people involved in different aspects of the society.

About the person

You need to have good interpersonal, communication and teamwork skills although full training can be given for any necessary technical requirements. We keep the beneficiary at the heart of what we do, working to understand their needs and the difference we make.

Also someone with:

  • A good telephone manner
  • Excellent people skills
  • Great organisational skills
  • Previous experience of handling money (desirable)
  • The desire to find out more about the work of the British Red Cross and how its volunteers make a real difference to the lives of people in your neighbourhood
  • A willingness to uphold the Fundamental Principles of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement and adhering to the Society's Equal Opportunities Policy

Tasks Included in this Role

  • Contacting volunteers on the volunteer database to fill collection rotas
  • Interacting with the general public
  • Meeting all the volunteers on the day that you have arrange
  • Cash counting, paperwork and banking

An individual risk assessment, parental consent and safeguarding considerations will be required for those aged 15 - 17. Those under 16 may not collect money in public and those under 18 should not be responsible for carrying cash.
