Role: Business Development Manager

Location: London or Chester

Springer Healthcare specialize in developing innovative bespoke medical content and communications solutions including scientific communications, medical education, promotional marketing programs, prescriber and patient education materials, independent medical news services, and pharmaceutical sales-force training. We deliver customized content to the marketplace using innovative online and mobile solutions that fit with the specific needs and objectives of each of our clients.

The Business Development Manager role is responsible for driving the sales of tactical content and services to pharmaceutical and med tech companies in the UK & Northern European region and Australia under the direction of the UK Sales Director. As part of a full service agency, the role encompasses sales of medical communications, medical education, sales force training and MSL support. Working to agreed targets, this role requires lead development and collaboration with clients to develop published or custom content in a range of formats and media.


  • To proactively develop the sale of Springer Healthcare and Springer Nature products and services to meet agreed sales budgets including:-
    • Medical Communications
    • Medical Education
    • Springer Healthcare Training
    • New technology products
  • To build and sustain long-term influential business relationships with clients
  • To maintain current knowledge about Springer Healthcare including our new medical education offering Medicine Matters
  • Optimize overall business potential on assigned clients
  • Develop an annual sales engagement plan

Experience, skills and qualifications


  • Proven experience working within a Scientific publisher or Med-Comms agency or pharmaceutical / med tech company
  • Proven strong business development experience
  • Able to demonstrate good knowledge of medical publishing and pharmaceutical communications and relevant regulatory issues
  • Demonstrates ability to be persuasive and articulate with an excellent level of negotiation skills
  • Demonstrates experience of managing projects
  • Proven track record of identifying issues and using own initiative to suggest solutions
  • Demonstrates effective communication skills both written and oral, with emphasis on excellent telephone manner
  • Able to demonstrate strong interpersonal skills
  • Proven experience achieving targets and setting goals
  • Proven experience in developing strong client relationships
  • Able to demonstrate impeccable organisation skills including ability to schedule multiple priorities and adhere to deadlines with excellent attention to detail.
  • Proven self-motivator and ability to balance multiple and potentially conflicting priorities
  • Demonstrates a positive attitude towards change
  • Demonstrates experience of working with pharma clients
  • Demonstrates an understanding of therapeutic and market environment and be able propose appropriate tactical solutions and offerings.
  • Demonstrates client focus with good commercial awareness
  • Proven excellent computer skills, including all Microsoft programmes
  • UK and International travel required
