Job Description
Leonardo is a global leader in defence electronics and delivers mission critical systems for situational awareness, electronic warfare and surveillance across land, sea and air. Working within Leonardo's Radar and Advanced Targeting line of business based in Edinburgh the successful candidate will be responsible for leading aspects of future programmes on multi-function RF systems and contributing to the continued development of the knowledge base of the company.

Continued success in the defence sector relies heavily on successfully delivering radar systems on current contracts while continually improving both the design and performance of these radar systems and the skills, knowledge and experience of the engineer who build them.

The successful candidate will work within Core Delivery Team for radar processing as a systems engineer but will also liaise frequently with engineers from other engineering functions and Integrated Product Teams to be able to contribute to the design and implementation of fire control radars. They will be expected to develop their knowledge and skills through working as part of the team with the support from experienced engineers and appropriate training as required.

Key Responsibility Areas
The candidate will work on algorithm and model development for fast jet radar systems as part of a Core Delivery Team. This will include signal processing, control and tracking algorithms with associated modelling and data analysis to verify the design and performance of the algorithms. The successful candidate will be able to apply scientific analysis to systems design requirements to develop algorithms which can be proven to meet these requirements. They will also have to become familiar with requirements management and configuration management tools used by specific projects and follow the systems engineer process to ensure robust designs and rigorous documentation for the algorithms and associated models developed.

Skills, Qualifications & Experience Required
The successful candidate should have an Honours Degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Mathematics or combined/related subjects achieving a minimum of 2:1. They should also have three or more further years of experience in an industry (not necessarily defence or sensor related) where they have utilised the knowledge gained through their degree or continued in academia to carry out relevant post-graduate research in engineering, physics or applied mathematics. They should be able to work in small teams and plan and execute their work within imposed deadlines. Experience of scientific programming and/or data analysis is essential.
