About the Role

We are looking for a methodical, flexible and forward-thinking person to lead a small team providing business and financial support to a Group that includes transport policy, transport modelling, road safety, home to school transport, bus services, community transport and transport improvement schemes.

This role leads a team of 5 Business Support officers, ensuring the prompt accurate payment of orders and claims to a variety of companies and individuals. The role is critical to the smooth running of the Group; therefore the ability to manage expectations and to multi-task is essential. Applicants must be able to clearly demonstrate previous order / invoice processing experience as well as experience of managing a team.

The successful candidate will be a key contact for other parts of the council and external stakeholders, making sure accurate and timely payments are made to transport providers and parents, whilst supervising a large number of monthly payments through bespoke databases for various types of activities. The post holder will also lead on improvements to business processes and service quality.

To be successful in the role you will need to be an excellent communicator – able to deal with enquiries from transport operators, other authorities and parents. The Group deals with complex, confidential and sensitive issues across a wide range of stakeholders, and the Team works together to respond to the wider groups’ requirements. Adaptability and self-management skills are essential.

The successful candidate must have;

  • Experience of managing direct reports
  • Excellent IT and communication skills (Excel/Word)
  • Experience of database/finance systems (e.g. SAP/Oracle)
  • Methodical approach to information gathering, recording and reporting
