Spanish Teacher, Online A-Level Course



Pearson is the world’s leading learning company. We are seeking an enthusiastic teacher to join us as we expand our innovative online courses business. We have over 15 years’ experience delivering online teaching in the US and will provide you with all of the necessary content, training and support that you will need to guide the students to success in their Spanish A-level.

What does “online” mean? You will conduct all of your lessons, marking, office hours and other student contact time, via our advanced, web-based learning platform (and occasionally the telephone). The students will access all of their learning materials, including homework assignments, online.

You will work from home for 4 days a week, with the 5th day in either our London or Oxford office - whichever is most convenient for you. There will also likely be a couple of visits a year to meet the students at their schools/colleges.

The role will start in mid/late-August 2018, in order for you to undertake the necessary training to be able to drive superior learning outcomes in a fully online environment.

Key responsibilities

  • You will be responsible for completing the following activities:

  • Motivate and encourage the students to study, so that they can achieve their goals;

  • Deliver a lesson each week to your classes and develop the teaching material for them;

  • Complete all marking for homework, tests and mock exams;

  • Support the students via asynchronous web conferencing sessions, email, chat and synchronous lessons;

  • Support students with alternate strategies and provide additional assistance with daily assignments and interactions;

  • Communicate with the relevant contact at our partner schools/ colleges to ensure that students are in class on time and on-task throughout the course;

  • Report on individual student progress each week to our assigned contact at our partner schools/ colleges;

  • Review the curriculum and devise alternate approaches to presenting lessons to increase student understanding;

  • Keep student records and data up-to-date, including attendance and logging all student contact;

  • Communicate regularly with our curriculum development specialists, and provide improvement recommendations;

  • Actively participate in all professional development training sessions and our collaborative network of online teachers;

  • Other duties as assigned.



  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS);

  • Previous experience teaching A-level Spanish - preferably the Edexcel specification;

  • Preferably a degree in Spanish;

  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written;

  • Student-focused approach, with excellent ability and experience in motivating students;

  • Strong technology skills, especially experience with Google Drive and new/social media apps, and preferably with edtech (ThingLink; VoiceThread; etc);

  • High degree of flexibility;

  • Ability to work some occasional evening hours, as needed to support some students;

  • Broadband internet at home;

  • An enhanced disclosure with barred list check of the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) will be undertaken before an appointment can be confirmed.


This role will be home-based for 4 days a week, with the 5th day in either our London or Oxford office. There will also be occasional travel to our partner institutions.

The deadline for applications is 31st March, 2018. We aim to appoint by mid-May.
