Our client, a major manufacturer based in Peterborough with a globally recognised brand, has just made available a Permanent opportunity for a Senior Mechanical Systems Engineer to join their team. The salary on offer is up to £50,000 (dependant on experience, bonus and excellent benefits.

The Senior Mechanical Systems Engineer, who will be responsible for delivering all aspects of Mechanical Systems Technical Objectives, performance, reliability & durability. They will contribute to the planning and delivery of the validation of new and updated diesel engines for industrial applications.

The role is within our client’s Peterborough facility where you will work alongside a range of system and component specialists, with support and collaboration from engineers across facilities in US, China, India and Japan.

The work involves working in a fast-moving development environment with the ability to analyse technical situations and make sound technical recommendations based on this analysis.

Key Responsibilities of the Senior Mechanical Systems Engineer

* Identification of System Integration requirements, cascade Product Objectives through to Technical Objectives, and performing system performance trade offs
* Identification of risks to product reliability and durability, proactively addressing issues in concept designs, and working with Simulation & Validation engineers to determine product capability
* Defining procedures to develop Technical Objectives using Machine & Engine data with analytics
* Identification of validation tests to address system level risks and delivery through both our onsite test facility and in application
* Ownership of complex system level Technical Issue resolution through data analysis & collaboration with design/development engineers
* Working with the Mechanical Systems Technical Project Lead to ensure that project meets time, cost and quality targets
* Lead the creation of Engine System FMEA's, supporting risk identification, providing technical guidance on system integration and facilitating the creation of system & component validation plans (DVP&R).
* Analysis of in field machine & engine data to develop technical objectives, identify system level risks and test cycles
* Work with component teams, test engineers, and product engineering managers, to drive decision making from engine data reviews and end of test inspections.
* Collaborate with the Design Architect & the Performance Architect in order to investigate system level trade-offs including performance, packaging & durability. They will utilise a combination of engineering hand calculations, simulation results and test data
* Lead the development of and implementation of Systems integration processes.
* Lead machine integration application risk assessments, working collaboratively with internal & 3rd party machine groups
* Liaise with application leads & customers to negotiate in field validation opportunities
* Take results from DVP & translate into product capability statements, application sign-off requirements

Qualifications and Experience required for the Senior Mechanical Systems Engineer role


* Understanding of engine systems, mechanical performance trade-offs, and technical issue resolution
* Experience of using Design FMEAs to manage product risks and manage validation requirements
* Strong design, development or simulation background
* Ability to analyse complex data with experience of engines or engine applications
* Good communication skills, written & verbal
* Engineering degree qualified with typically 4 to 8 years relevant industrial experience


* Ability to lead and deliver through others
* Experience of industrial diesel engine applications, construction machinery or generating sets
* Proven project management experience related to Diesel Engine development
* Experience of Root Cause Analysis and issue investigation techniques
