My client is a manufacturer of safety critical components within the automotive industry, part of a global group with locations throughout the world. They work with many of the large OEM’s within the automotive industry throughout the world, and are looking to recruit a Purchasing Specialist to join their operation based in Wiltshire.

You will be responsible for strategic sourcing, engineering interfaces, issuing and evaluating RFQs, commercial issues and negotiations, cost reduction opportunities and overall supplier management for a certain product group within my client. The focus will be on proactively developing suppliers in support of introducing new products to the market. Understanding of the technical/functional requirements of the product along with commercial and logistic aspects of the project is mandatory.


* Own strategic sourcing plan for all new programmes and R&D activities
* Identify suppliers for development of new technologies / cost saving opportunities within the active product
* Provide the link between internal engineering and external suppliers to ensure best compromise between ‘design-for-manufacture’ and ‘design-for-performance’
* Generate, issue and manage RFQs
* Review, analyse and clarify quote packages from suppliers
* Analyse quotes from ECU suppliers and software development consultants
* Define and negotiate design & development contracts with suppliers
* Identify and negotiate commercial cost reduction opportunities both internally and externally
* Negotiate LTAs with suppliers
* Work with external suppliers, programme management, engineering and logistics to release parts into production
* Manage post-SOP design changes with suppliers
* Raise and manage NDA and other contractual aspects with suppliers
* Work with QA to ensure suppliers meet necessary quality standards/requirements
* Generate and manage supplier risk management plan


* Experience in strategic sourcing, opportunity analyses and contract negotiations
* Proven history of identifying and developing new suppliers
* Familiarity with taking new technologies/products from development to production
* Demonstrable experience in automotive market, and electronic and mechanical components
* Understanding of market-value for Automotive components
* Experience of working with suppliers to Automotive OEM, Tier 1 or Tier 2
* Proven capability in component design and design for manufacture.
* Strong capability to research and learn about new manufacturing processes/technologies and how to apply them to solve design challenges.
* Experience of working with software-controlled components
* Understanding of electrical and electronics component pricings in ECUs and actuators
