As the Database Administrator, your role will be to assist in the design and delivery of the organisation’s IT infrastructure services with a specific focus on Microsoft SQL server and database administration, performing the on-going management and delivering improvements to assist the organisation delver its goals by delivering quality IT systems and services. As the senior DBA role in the infrastructure team this will involve working very closely with colleagues on the Service Desk, the Business Systems and Web Development teams within the IT function to deliver services and systems.

Whilst the primary function of this role will be to support and develop the SQL infrastructure there will also be the opportunity and requirement to assist with other infrastructure projects and tasks around supporting and maintaining the server and client estate.

Key Responsibilities
• Assist the Head of Infrastructure to architect and implement systems, solutions and services.
• Work closely with the Business Systems and Software Development IT teams to deliver and support SQL database solutions to our internal and external customers, advising on performance, scalability and optimization
• Management and reporting of the database systems including system health, performance and capacity reporting
• Ensure system, asset and audit documentation libraries are current.
• Assist with the creation of documentation and guidelines, inc policies and procedures.
• Provide 3rd line support to the IT and Service desk teams.
• SQL Server database architecture and design including:
o Table and index definition
o Stored procedure development and administration
o Always on Availability Groups for high availability and disaster recovery
o Reactive and proactive database tuning and optimization
o Database security and hardening
• Supporting cloud-based database deployment and administration

Skills, abilities and experience:
• Proven and relevant working experience in Database administration in SQL Server (2005, 2008, 2012, 20160
• Excellent knowledge and experience of managing Microsoft Windows 2008/2012
• Experience of server virtualisation platforms (Hyper-V or VM Ware.)
• Good working knowledge of:
o Writing and troubleshooting SQL Code (stored procs, functions, tables,
views, triggers, indexes, constraints)
o Server backup tools & methodology
o Write and troubleshoot SQL Code and design (stored procs, functions,
tables, views, triggers, indexes, constraints)
o Data Centre infrastructure and best practice
o SQL Database Operational support to tech users
o Strong team working and mentoring skills
o Hands on experience of installation and maintenance and configuration
of SQL databases in data centre environments
o Excellent analytical and problem solving skills
o Microsoft Technical Training and Certification (MSCE or MCITP paths)
o Experience of configuring SQL clusters / Always on availability Groups
o ITIL framework knowledge or qualification(s)

• Knowledge of IT Security Principles (ISO27001 Infosec or other).
• Experience of cloud based hosting (eg Azure, EWS)
• Installation and maintenance of clients\server hardware in data centre
• Understanding of PRINCE2 (other project methodology
